This looks to be an old classic from Revell Chris and is not a kit that I'm familiar with so I look forward to seeing this one.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Revell boxed a bunch of Italeri kits in the mid 70s, which is when this one is from.
The kit has superb detail and maybe the worst figures ever.

I'm not sure I'd say its superb detail, but its pretty nice. The box is horrible though. What marketing genius came up with "tank cracker"?

For 1975 the detail was quite excellent!
The name it appears is a silly translation of Panzerknacker, meaning litterly 'Armor braker', one of the knicknames the germans used for tank destroyers.

As was common with Italeri, the parts are not numbered, you have to refer to a parts diagram in the instructions to find things
The drive sprockets and bogies are done first, these can be articulated if you are careful allowing them to move and be postioned easily over uneven terrain. I did it this way out of force of habit!

Looking good so far.
My earliest memories of this kit date back to about 1886. My uncle, who is still a prolific armor modeler, and the reason I got into this whole crazy hobby, had just finished building one in white-wash finish and sat it down on the mantlepiece. I remember it was winter, and it was kind of gray in the house, so the tank really looked right in its habitat. I've loved the Marder IIIh since then.
Though oddly enough, I never have built one of my own!

The first time I built this kit was about 1977. As I recall I didn't paint over the base color, but added stripes of brown and green over it!Softscience wrote:Looking good so far.

It looks a decent enough kit. Looking forward to seeing the end result.

Good start Chris and the parts look to be very good, especially taking into account the age of the kit. Keep cracking on

The gun has some nice detail, that is where the fun really starts.

That is certainly living up to it's "Cracker" billing. Great work so far.

Good to see this build back on Chris. There's plenty of nice looking detail there.

Thanks guys. I'm sort of 'tanked out' as this point, just want to push this guy over the finnish line.
Did a simple camo pattern
Painted the bogies next, and started painting the tools
Painted the tracks gunmetal and added them
