Chip's Lavochkin La-5FN

Post by Molly-new »

Sorry for the late start

I will be building a 1/72 Lavochkin La-5FN, produced by a company called "KP". I have not come across their kits, before but it was a cheap purchase that I could not resist. :-D

The box was a bit squashed:

As there were only two sprues in it it did not seem to have caused much damage, just the propeller which should be easy enough to repair or replace:

Image

Instructions are neatly laid out, and the kit provides the option of two engine profiles, and open or closed canopy:

Image

The decals and paint guide enable you to do two variants, Russian or Czechoslovakian:

I will be doing the Russian one.

Excellent choice Chip, always loved Lavotchkin fighters.

I suspect that is a Frog repop, the stand has the look of a frogger.

Nice choice of entry for this GB Chip. I agree that the stand does look rather Frog like, which is not a bad thing as IMHO they are nicer looking stands than those provided by Airfix.

Looks like a reasonable kit. Looking forward to watching the build.

Finally some time at the bench.

So far I have got the cockpit together:

It is quite nicely detailed so I will be going for the no pilot-canopy open option.

Bench time is very scarce at the moment, but thankfully this has gone together quite quickly:

Unfortunately in my haste to get it together I did not line the fuselage halves up correctly so it has had a bit of filler to sort it out. :frown:

It's nice to see this coming together Chip. Looks like you'll be enjoying a bit of a sanding fest

No worries Chip, I once glued a 1/48 Tony wing together and set the clamps before realizing is was almost an EIGTH of an inch out of alignment!

Thanks for the support guys.

After a lengthy bout of sanding  I have completed the build and masked her up ready for spraying:

A coat of primer should show me how good my sanding has become :ha:

Quite pleased with the prep, and due to bad weather (rain) but fairly warm temperatures today I have managed to get it painted up:

It has also had a coat of klear ready for the decals to go on.
