VV attempts an Airfix Comet racer **finished**

Post by VickersVandal »

This could well be a DNF since tomorrow is very busy, but what the heck. Nothing ventured....etc etc

New boxing of the DH.88 Comet in green (G-ACSR)

Starting out:

Cut out the two ridiculous heads supplied by Airfix and scratchbuilt a cockpit.

And the engine pods get a feature that will at least look vaguely like an engine block.....or something.....when viewed through that big gap in the front.

Scratchbuilding an interior for a Blitz? You're just showing off now, V! Looks great though.

The amount of shimming and filling this kit requires is just ridiculous

I've built one before. It was just as horrible.

I'm using gel superglue as a filler. With catalyst it's instant no-more-gaps

It's not a kit for the fainthearted, is it? And given it's going to have a nice glossy coat there's a real need to get the body smooth. I don't envy you this one bit.

Good luck with all that, I hope it works out well, having just completed a blitz I know how that eats away at your time. I've been thinking about getting one of these for a while so interested to see how it goes.

Good morning VV. Great start. Saw a caricature of the Comet in the movie Planes last night
What a hoot. Well press on.

It's 4:44am on a Sunday. I'm awake. I need a shower and some brekkie and then I'll be back into it. That's how committed I am to the Blitzbau.
