Simon's Matchbox P40 **Finished**

Post by theconfidencestoat »

I'd been fancying doing a P40, and have a couple of Airfix ones. However,I usually do Matchbox for the Blitz, and I found this :
Image

This will be a quick, but disjointed build, in between Mrs Stoat's gardening chores, and Uni work. Today is the last opportunity I'll get to participate in the AUgust Blitzbau so here we go.

10.20 am, beautiful late winter ( looks like spring ) morning on the sunny South Coast of NSW. So, plenty to do. Obligatory sprue shots. The date inside the fuse says 1976, remember it well, built lots of matchbox kits when I was 11!
Image

Bit over an hour later. Coated the insides with some Aeromaster acrylic paint, (These were great, have a few left, brush paint and airbrush beautifully.) Some brown on the seat and joined her up, the fuselage sides just snapped together, great positive fit. Tipped the prop with yellow, and started masking the canopy. I've also weeded one and a half vegetable beds......
Image

I have some nice decals for P40's, I may go with a green/dark earth example, as I can rattle can all colours to save time.

Nice choice Simon and this looks to be coming on a treat. Alas, my supply of Aeromaster acrylics has now dried up - I also found them to be excellent paints. Best of luck with this.

Gonna go with the kit scheme and decals now, all the aeromaster ones are for Mk 2's and this is a Mk 4. Actually, it 's a cop out , the kit scheme is easier to paint !

Nice sneak in! And a great start.
Love the blue plastic, almost a shame to paint over it.

My plan was to blitz today, and then we could have followed eachother. But weather says otherwise. Almost too good to be true.
Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...

This is a great kit which I remember from my youth. It captures the beefy look of the P-40 really well.

I think I did one not too long ago, possibly for a blitz build. I think it was Soviet. :???:

Great start by the way. I will be watching - any music on the go?

Here we go, I found it.
A different boxing but I assume it is the same kit.

My decals were too far gone so I did a soviet bird:

Those Barracuda decals look nice. Are they all for late model P-40's or are there some early ones?
