That's a great idea Martin. Classic Plastic is one of my favourite parts of the magazine and I think this GB would make a great subject for inclusion.

A good idea - I'll have to ask Gary if he's OK with it, but I think a couple of pages as an expanded Gallery feature would be OK. I'll let everyone know.Martin R wrote:A thought I'll express and see what sort of reception it gets: I would be happy to do a few words writing up this GB for Paul Bradley's "Classic Plastic" feature in SAMI. If he likes this idea, I would provide him the words and then perhaps the participants could provide some pics for Paul to use to illustrate the feature.
I'm assuming that in the world of Classic Plastic, many people would recognise Ted's name and perhaps be interested to hear what we've been doing?

OK, we've got a 24 hours extension - GB will now finish on 2359(L) on 1 Oct 13!
And if I may say to everyone: great work so far! And 30 finishes to boot! I'm sure Ted would be quietly chuffed.

MArtin

And we're fast coming up to the finishing post - about 3:45 left in this time zone.
John has, I think, 8:45 left where he is . . .
Anyone still building further West than that?
regards,
Martin

So much love for Matchbox.
Quite a few multiple builds from people too. Thanks Martin for being the energy behind it and gently encouraging/nudging us along.

Thanks to the one day extension I managed to get my Bugatti finished taking my completed builds for this GB to a barely believable four.
Thanks to Martin for leading the GB and to all those who took part and produced some great models.

Yes, many thanks, Martin! Just snuck mine in under the wire, but thanks for offering an extension - it looked as if I'd need it for a short while...

Re: Sign-Up and Chat
Yes thanks Martin for being GBL, this has got to be the most prolific GB I have taken part in( in terms of overall completions.), so well done to everyone who took part in this GB whether building or just leaving encouraging comments.

Re: Sign-Up and Chat
This has been a truly excellent GB and shows the sheer enthusiasm for the Matchbox brand and the high esteem in which Ted Taylor was held. Many thanks for being the GBL Martin. I wouldn't be surprised if this GB is something of a UAMF record breaker in terms of numbers of builds and completions.

Re: Sign-Up and Chat
Almost, but not quite !!!!
Congratulations to all !! A quick scan of all (old forum & here) past GB's shows this one came in a close 2nd to Blitzbau XII, earlier this year, for number of completions. Of course some 14 of the BB completions belonged to one person, so maybe we should put an asterisk on it.
I think this GB may have the record for the largest number of people completing models.
When I get more time (hah), I just might go back and generate some statistics.
Again, Well Done All !!!

Re: Sign-Up and Chat
Thanks for all the thanks, chaps. This was a privilege and a joy to lead; everyone was pretty enthusiastic and as others have said, I think the response shows both the affection in which Matchbox kits are held, and the esteem in which Ted himself was held. I think he's looking down and gently smiling. At least, I hope so!
Well done, all.

Martin

Oh and another thing, the Classic British Kits SIG is putting on a display of "my first CBKs" for Telford this year. So, build a CBK and give an anecdote about why the kit means something to you, and you're in - if you want to be. It strikes me that every build here should be eligible for entry, so if you're interested, PM James Perrin and work out how you get the kits to Telford.
The stalwart efforts going on for Telford are at the link here (but I think you may have to be in the CBK SIG to follow the link. No probs if that is the case; joining is just a matter of letting James know you're in).
