Paul's Adriatic Skyservant *DNF*

My second 'air truck' build will be the Dornier Do-28D Skyservant:





I'm also going to build this basically OOB, and it will be finished in the markings of the sole Skyservant operated by the Croatian Air Force, back in the early 1990's.

Sprue shots and more detail closer to start time.

It'll look even smarter when its done - it'll be basically overall white.

I always like the look of the Skyservant and have done a few of them over the years, have never been
able to get a fuselage seam that I was happy with(box shaped fuselage!!!)
Looking forward to seeing this one progress.

It is a former-West German aircraft, originally 59+03 of the Luftwaffe. Apparently, it was sold onto the German civil registry, then donated by a Croatian sympathizer during the Homeland War of 1991-5. Currently in storage.

Colour scheme looks pretty simple - I have some blue trim film somewhere in the decal bank - and I can print up my own serials.

That's quite a clean aircraft, Paul. Not much weathering to do.

It is, Ian, but there's quite a few little mods to do to the airframe to add. I believe, looking at other photos of the a/c, that the areas of the aft fuselage where the serials are located are overpainted with a slight off-white. Added to the fact that this kit is moulded in white, chocolate brown and bright orange, and the painting won't be as straightforward as one might imagine!

Quite delightful colours Matchbox chose, don't you think...? The model will need to be primed before I add the white, that's for sure..!

I'll not be using the decals at all - I'll be making my own for the serials. Here's the photo from the http://www.eurodemobbed.org.uk/overview.php website (well worth a visit!) referred to above:



As you can see, not much in the way of decoration.

I'm also not going to add much to the cabin, as I don't have photos of the internal layout of this machine. Will add some detail to the cockpit though, I think.

OK, made a start over the weekend. There's not a lot to the kit, but the different colours of plastic are proving to be a pain. I've had to paint the floor and seats with 3 coats of grey primer to cover the orange - I dread to think what the wings will have to take.....

Got a bunch of sub-assemblies done - wings, engine pods, fuselage interior.



Next step is to prime the exterior, so that I can add a coat of white to the fuselage prior to fitting the windows and buttoning up the fuselage - that'll be on the weekend now.

It might have been worth priming the sprues at the start. At least then the small parts don't need more than one coat and delay the build.

I was anxious to actually put parts together, and I didn't have a chance to airbrush this past weekend due to the weather and other commitments. Not a big deal, but one nicely-airbrushed coat on those interior bits might have been better....

I don't know - let's look through the square window.....

Hardly anything, I should think! The windscreen, and, indeed, the windows, have been bathed in Future, so they are as clear as they can be, but the openings are very small. I decided not to bother with too much extra detail in the cockpit - just an IP decal and painted seat belts.

A quick non-update. I got nothing done on this over the weekend - a combination of crappy weather and other commitments. More progress this week, I hope...
