Thanks Dirk and Alan :)

I'm still on the lookout for the Matchbox P-51D at a sane price, so I can have the pair of them in a display :)

It's not a great kit, there are better Matchbox aircraft, and the Heller XVI is better too. But the low back Merlin Spitfires are badly represented in 1/72 scale (come on Airfix we need the Vc and XVIe in 1/72 scale next year!).

Cheers

I need to print decals for the serials and then varnish it.

Nearly done!

I'll second that.

You have turned this Turkey into a real gem. Excellent work.

I do still have a nostalgic attachment to this old kit even if it is far below current standards. I still have 3 in the stash.

Andrew,

I've got one somewhere in the stash I'm unlikely to build if you want it . . . .

Well, things moved along a little more slowly than I would have liked this evening, but I have varnished the undersides, printed out the decals and applied a coat of sealant. I had hoped to do more
- I thought David is bound to be tired tonight - first day back to school and a visit to the hospital in the afternoon. But no! :omg. Hyperactivity until 9 pm. I was beginning to think about tranquilliser darts

If I am superorganised in the morning, I'll get more decal sealant on before I go to work, so the decals should be usable by the evening. :)

Cheers

The serial codes are now on

:party

Image

I usually print four identical codes, to have two spares in case of disaster. In this case I needed both spares because the first decal went on fine, but then the next two got a bad case of the curly-whirlies and had to be abandoned.

So now, there's just some more matt varnishing to do, and this one will be finished.

cheers

Very nice Andrew, you've made a great job of it and I'm always impressed to see home made decals that have come out well!

Thanks for the nice comments chaps, it's still not quite as nice as I would like, but it's passable.

My printer (a Brother multifunction do-dah) can do black very well, but the colours aren't vibrant enough really for anything too complicated. I might try playing with the ink type and paper type settings a bit more to see if I can liven them up a bit! Serials are nice and easy because I just use Arial font - no messing around with "authentic" fonts, guv :-D

cheers
