Here we are.

The semi-gloss over gloss comes out more gloss than semi .... Also, you'll see where I had a run come over the port side intakes and mar the paint job. If you wonder why I didn't catch it, it's because I did the top first, then turned it over & did the underside, then got dragged away by other things .... I might try to repair it, but remember, this goes on the ceiling ....

I wish someone did aftermarket decals for this kit. In retrospect I should have bought the Revell repop just to get the decals.

Anyway, here we are

Not sure I enjoyed the build, what with all the filler and sanding and decal issues, but it is no doubt impressive when finished. I don't normally do jets, but this is one I might like to tackle again, just to see if I could do better ....

I will mount this, and the 3 Lightnings, to my ceiling probably Thursday. I do have the Redtop missiles for the Lightnings and the longer fuel lines all ready to go .... When it id up, I'll post the "aerial view" elsewhere ....

Image

Lastly, but most importantly - I would like to apologize to Martin and to the members of this GB for my lack of participation throughout. I have had a number of mostly non-modeling things going on this past couple months -- nothing to worry about, not health or anything, just too many things. I better than anyone should know better, but I have simply been unable to be as interactive, not just with my efforts, but all your fine efforts, which would appear to make this a record setting build and one that meets the intent of a Tribute to Ted Taylor. Thank you all for that !!!!

Nice work, it is a difficult kit to build in terms of fit and filling.

Very nice, John!

Yeah, it sucks when life gets in the way of modeling, eh?! I went through a spell of non-motivation these last few weeks, which really messed up my GB plans....

Still, onwards and upwards, eh? Are you taking part in the Vampire GB?

Very well done, John. I have one of these and have made a couple of attempts to get started on it. Dry fitting some of the major parts has pretty much put off each time. I admire your tenacity and determination to get this beast built to such a good standard within such a quick timeframe.
Kudos to you.

Excellent work John and well done for finishing this monster on time! I'm sure it will look great refuelling those Lightnings.

Well done John, took me months to do mine, which now lives in a box in the cupboard. Will look great with the Lightings in tow.

Looks great, John. Love the shots on Ithe glass table top: looks very low level over water...

OK, today did not go as expected but certainly as usual ....

Nonetheless, here are all 4 hanging in the breeze so to speak .... Please note they are neither at correct distances from the tanker or from each other ... only so much I can do by eyeball, up on a ladder ....

Image

Tomorrow, I will again get on the ladder and with one hand hold a drogue, with another a matching probe, with another some superglue, and another some accelerator .... and attempt to lock each aircraft into the tanker without bringing the whole thing crashing down, etc ....

Then hopefully a final picture ....
