Nursing at the drogue .... * * FINISHED * *
I'm not sure I should make this a separate thread, I might not complete for the GB, but anyway to go with my in-flight Victor, I need some things to fuel .... and since I am not going to do a Vulcan, I thought I'd pick another Matchbox kit, PK-114 Lightning F6 based on some online images I saw ....
There we are, an original, in 3-colours. Decals look almost useable, but I have a couple aftermarket sets due in, along with two of the *cough-cough* revell repops to give me hopefully a full flight from the same squadron, whatever that may turn out to be.
Haven't really looked at the kit yet except to not the same rather fine raised panel lines, better on the wings than the fuselage, that the Victor has/had. I will note that Mach 1.7-ish would not be achievable if the fuel fillers and inspection panels stuck up that far ....
Probably not start this until next week, but here it is ....

I'm sure these were good aircraft but I have a hard time getting past the tanks and such ON TOP of the wings. My febal mind just can't get around that

Re: Nursing at the drogue ....
I have received the Revell(DE) Lightnings and they are not Matchbox re-pops, so I won't build them here.

Interesting. I have a Revell Lightning that is certainly a Matchbox re-pop. I wonder if they also boxed the Hasegawa kit?jRatz wrote:I have received the Revell(DE) Lightnings and they are not Matchbox re-pops, so I won't build them here.

Re: Nursing at the drogue ....
Hmmmm, my Revell(DE) kit# is 04301, this one.
There are big pieces & things that look similar as if the matchbox kit was partially copied, but many details are different -- cockpit interior, gear doors, to mention a couple obvious ones.
As noted elsewhere, these are jets and therefore I am just faking it for actual knowledge of the prototypes or the kits ....

I think this is the Hasegawa kit as mine has the over wing tanks but the Matchbox doesn't.jRatz wrote:Hmmmm, my Revell(DE) kit# is 04301, this one.

Yes is does mate - look at the top left of the black sprue in the picture above - didn't use 'em when I built mine though.Clashcityrocker wrote:

John,
I'm looking forward to seeing this one built. If you need a (non-Revell) second, perhaps you could loan David (lancfan)'s one when he's finished with it?
The Frightening is much revered in good old Blighty but, despite it's Thunderbirds ('60s TV Series not Display Team) looks, I just can't see it myself. Should have been a tailed delta in my opinion. Might have had more space in the wings for fuel, then . . .
regards,
Martin

Re: Nursing at the drogue ....
I have glued the bottom wing panel into the upper wing panel, and the gear doors into all that. The fit of the panels is not great and on one side my effort at shimming appears to have failed.
Then off we went to the tub of water for an extended wet-dry session and the panel lines, fuel caps, inspection panels, etc, are much less obvious.
I'd post pix but we decided to go drink beer and eat shrimp & conch fritters instead .... maybe tomorrow, by then my aftermarket decal sheets may have appeared. Regardless, I should be able to start interior paint if nothing else ....

Re: Nursing at the drogue ....
Thanks for that. I've got a built example of each. I didn't remember the Matchbox with the tanks. I know I didn't put them on, spoils the look of it.beany wrote:Yes is does mate - look at the top left of the black sprue in the picture above - didn't use 'em when I built mine though.Clashcityrocker wrote:

Re: Nursing at the drogue ....
Got decal sheets today - one plane each from about 8 squadrons, all at different times/places, probably none of which match whatever I do the Victor in, so ....
My cunning plan is to do 3 of the most "colorful", none from same squadron, and call it an "air show refueling display" .... to that end, I did start to cut the parts off the sprue for the other two, but you won't see them here as they aren't Matchbox ....
As to the Matchbox kit, today did not go as planned -- a few things happened, but .... and tomorrow is probably a waste ....
And as they are just demo-ing at an air show, I can leave the ugly long range tanks off ....
