Splash's Seafox ***Finished***
My last attempt at building the Seafox came to an abrupt stop, when I found it was missing several parts, so I built the Swordfish in it place, now I have managed to source a second Seafox with all its parts from ebay my build is back on.

Re: Splash's 2nd attempt at a Seafox
First impressions are good the date stamped on the inside of the body says 1983 so its 30 years old and must be a very late Matchbox kit.
The surface detail is typical for its age with raised detail and slightly over sized wing ribs, but they have used the same technique for the wing struts as on their Swordfish, which means aligning the wings and struts should be plane sailing.
Having built the Airfix Swordfish in silver I think biplanes suit the interwar/early war period so I'm going to build this in silver.
The cockpits have no detail but I think if I add the two crew this should fill the empty space or I could add some spare seats that I have in my spares box, which look more like a/c seats and less like seats out home for the elderly.
When I started my last build I had to stop due to a missing part on top of the engine and short run float support struts. Having now seen the missing part it is only a very small rectangle that is supposed to be a radiator on top of the engine, plus now I have a good set of original float struts I can attempt to copy them or use the new ones if all else fails.

A nice looking biplane Splash and one, it has to be said, that I'm not overly familiar with. I look forward to this one.

I also remember Beaties. What a massive selection of model kits they used to stock!

Re: Splash's 2nd attempt at a Seafox
I just had a Woolies near me and they didn't sell any MB kits so I feel as though I missed out back then, so hurrah for the internet now I say....
Glad to see you're back to this one Splash.

Re: Splash's 2nd attempt at a Seafox
I had a play last night and made one set of float struts out of brass wire and super glue, so I will leave them for 24 hours just to see if they will be strong enough for the job, if they are not I will try again with plastic struts and if that fails break out the second kit for spares.

Re: Splash's 2nd attempt at a Seafox
The brass struts failed so its back to making them out of plastic rod.
The basic parts are now assembled but due to the lack of time I'm going to build it almost straight out of the box and will not bother rubbing the wings down.

Looking good and yes their system for the struts on the Swordfish is pure magic, never have I loved building a bi plane as much in my life!
Will be watching close as I have a Sea Fox in my stash.

Nice one. The Seafox is a fair old size, for some reason I envisaged it being more Tiger Moth sized but it's actually closer in size to the Stringbag!

I agree Shaun I thought they were Tiger Moth size.ShaunW wrote:Nice one. The Seafox is a fair old size, for some reason I envisaged it being more Tiger Moth sized but it's actually closer in size to the Stringbag!
I have now added the struts and have taped them up so they set in the correct position, I'm going to follow the process I used on the Swordfish and rig the upper wings befor I join them to the lower set.

Re: Splash's 2nd attempt at a Seafox
I like the way you set your wings. I'm going to have to try that as I always seem to struggle gluing both ends of the struts at the same time.
