Tim's Bugatti Type 59 ***Finished***

Post by TimJ »

I thought Fred's Aston Martin looked a bit lonely so I thought I'd build this to keep it company.

Blue, black, chrome and rubber tyres. No need to paint this one!

Sometimes the talent consists exactly in that: try five dozen times when others stop at three dozen...! (F.Labelle)
I think that modeling is a subtle mix of zen philosophy and absolute crazyness - but in my case I would not dare to specify the respective percentage of each......

Hi Tim,

How's the Bugatti going? I built one of these when I was a teenager, (long time ago!) It suffered a bit during a house move, but all the bits are in a box, maybe this will kick start me into restoring it! :-)

Cheers,

It took a while to get started but there has been some progress on the Bugatti. Most of the chrome parts have been stripped and the body parts have been painted HU48. I don't know how old the paint is but there was a sticker on the bottom so I know it was 30p from Woolworths.

It could be a sprint to the finish with this one.

Nice one. Humbrol paint has a long shelf life by the sounds as that HU48 looks to have gone on nicely enough, but 30p from Woolies? it must be 80's if not late 70's (I can't remember exactly how much paint was back then).

I did some more painting today.

Image

The instructions said black for the seats but I decided to go with leather instead. I did a quick mock up of the frame with the engine in place.

Image

I need to get a tin of silver paint tomorrow then I should be able to get it done in the next few days. It'll be a bit late but if I can't get it finished before the GB finishes I'll move it to the relevant area.

After getting some silver paint there has been more progress. The engine and floor have been fitted to the frame.

Image

Everything is painted so it's just a matter of assembly and some touching up of paintwork. I don't know if it'll be finished by tomorrow night but it won't be far off.

Did the silver paint cost 30p? :ha: :ha: :ha:
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

X 5.

With a one day extension I had to crack on so after burning the midnight oil this is how it looked when I left for work this morning.

Image

Work continued after I got home and by 6pm the steering and rear suspension had been fitted.

Image

After fabricating an aero screen due to a missing clear sprue it was finished at 9.30. Whew!
