OT Does a Springbok *** Finished ***
This will be my entry for this group build. An Airfix T6G which I think was originally a Heller kit.
It comes with South African markings which makes a pleasent change. I have plenty of spares too so will see which are best.
I think this one will be in-flight if I have an appropriate prop blur.
It will hopefully end up looking something like this:
I am just off to the shops to find some orange paint.

That's a fantastic looking scheme! Please do tell us all about the nightmares. Is the orange really scary? If so you can just eat it.
Can't wait to see you start on this, I'm sure it will be a beauty when done.

I like that paint scheme. I don't think the orange should be too bad to do

We will see Dirk. I just need to plan the order of the colours then lots of masking.Dirkpitt289 wrote:I like that paint scheme. I don't think the orange should be too bad to do
Need to get it built first.
Will be in-flight I think.

Here we go with the sprue shots.
And decal sheet
Not much done yet just started by painting some parts on the sprue.
Should start putting it all together tomorrow.

Good start, OT.
Can see from the scheme there's lots of masking to be done. But it's very attractive.
Moulds from here look very nice. What's your take on it?

Re: OT Does a Springbok
I was pleasantly suprised as the panel lines look quite good. However a test fit of the engine cowling shows a little shrinkage & the fuselage halve don't quite match up.Prisca wrote: Moulds from here look very nice. What's your take on it?
Nothing a craft knife & putty can't fix.
Better buy more plasters!

Re: OT Does a Springbok
I have put the seats & interior in and weathered things a bit - hundreds of grubby students can make a mess of anything.
The engine was a bit tricky to fit but went in ok once I ignored the instructions. One half of the cowling is deeper than the other!
Do you think I should trim to match or build up the short one?
There is a big lump on the parcel shelf & I think its the wrong colour. I could not figure out whether the interior should be green or black
so it’s got a mixture of both. I sanded the shelf & painted it black.
I still need to paint a couple of black boxes & add some seat belts, Tamiya tape variety but it all fits pretty well.
Also need to add the metal frame work that goes in there somewhere.
The wings went together without any fuss. I am a happy chap today.
A dry fit of the wings to fuselage looks pretty good too.
So next up sand the fuselage seam line & mask the canopy. Lots of frame lines but at least they are straight lines.
I have decided to do this one in-flight so I need to rummage through the spares box for at least one pilot figure.
I will have a go at making a prop blur too.
Ambitious stuff going on here.

Re: OT Does a Springbok
Hi Old T, glad to see you're doing the same kit as me, it'll be interesting to see if we have the same problems.
I've been reading your thread with interest and I too noticed that my fuselage halves are going to need a little work. I haven't put my engine together yet - too busy working on pilots - but thanks for pointing out that the cowling halves are slightly different depths, I'll keep an eye out for that as I put it together
Looking good so far!

Re: OT Does a Springbok
Good luck with it Stang, it is throwing up a few challenges but I am sure it will turn out fine.
I am busy building a chicken coop so not much bench time for me.
I did a bit more work on the interior & started on a pilot figure. I can't do any more until he is done. I did manage to get it up on a stand though:
The cowling is just attached with blutack to see what it looks like. The wing lights are a terrible fit, far too wide for the wings so lots of sanding required to blent them in,
Hopefully I will get some time at it tomorrow.

We want pics of the chicken coop!
Nice work so far. Did you find any pilots to kidnap?

Coop pics will be forthcoming but don't hold your breath!Prisca wrote:We want pics of the chicken coop!

I got a pilot from the Revell NATO set. I am only doing one as I hate painting pilots.
Not much done today as the wife was running a 10K race followed by the post race party at my place.
