Masking is a real PITA to me, why I avoid it like the plague. Not always so smart though.
But you do develop your own sense of steady-hands-toothpick-technique-with-a-little-help-of-cognac.

Re: OT Does a Springbok
Apologies guys, home life & work in particular are mental at the moment. I work at a University & it is all go for the next few weeks for me, just enough time to sleep & eat.
Even the chicken coop construction has ground to a halt.
I did get a load of masking done though and tried to spray orange paint for the first time ever. Yuck!
Not brilliant (no pun intended.) but will have to do. I think my cheapo spray brush is knackered after I stabbed myself in the finger with the needle.
It's not dayglo orange but it was the only orange I had so on it went. Coverage is not the best but I don't want it to look too new, a bit of weathering will hide any poor bits.
All my pictures show these kites as well worn & dirty. Student abuse no boubt.
Since this photo was taken I have added the extra dark sea grey and peeled off the masking & some of the paint too.
I will just have to touch it up with a brush as the deadline is rapidly approaching.
I will try to get a bit more done tonight. More to follow.

Sorry to hear about your airbrush and the stabbing. Getting a wee bit violent during this build aren't you?
The orange looks good from here. We all know how PITA this color is.
Can't wait to see more, keep up the good work!

Touch up complete (Oh Er missus )
Time for a little light sanding to simulate wear & tear before applying decals.

That looks great! Your coverage of the fluo orange is much better than I could do.
Still not sure what you mean though.
I had to google this. Wish I hadn't!Old_Tonto wrote:(Oh Er missus )

A crude Innuendo, usually of an adult nature is followed by the expression “oh er missus”. If we ever meet in person I will demonstrate.Prisca wrote:That looks great! Your coverage of the fluo orange is much better than I could do.

Thanks Nigel. I like the scheme very much it's just a lot of work to achieve & I am essentially a lazy modeller.Clashcityrocker wrote:Nice colour scheme.

Re: OT Does a Springbok
I spent last evening roughing my Harvard up a bit for a couple of reasons.
The raised panel lines show through silver now so will get a pencil rubbed over them soon.
Pics to follow.
I am also trying to make a prop blur as it is going to be in flight. Never tried this before. Wish me luck.
Upon attaching the wheels in the up position I find there are no wheel bay doors in this kit. Strange!
Decaling tonight.
- 1. It looked far too new after a coat of klear and all the images I have so these kites to be very worn.
2. The orange paint had bubbled up in a few places & peeled away when I lightly sanded the area.

Re: OT Does a Springbok
Thanks Greg.
I have been progressing bit by bit.
Once I got the masking off there were a few areas that needed attention:
Overall not too bad. I sanded a little as it looked factory fresh.
I don't know if you can see from these images but the sanding highlighted the panel lines and gave the plane a used look.
After a couple of coats of Klear left overnight to dry I got some decals on yesterday:
I am just about to finish it off with stenceling & prop.
