Giulio's "Giallone". *** Finished ***

Post by giulio_gobbi »

"Giallone", can be translate from Italian like "Big Yellow", was the nick name of T6 in Italian Air Force (AMI - Aeronautica Militare Italiana).
The T6 served in AMI from January1949 to February 1984.

This is my subject :

Image

A T6H in Somalia with AFIS (Amministrazione Fiduciaria Italiana Somalia) based at Mogadiscio in 1954 and destroyed in a Flight incident in 1956.

In 1949, the UN gave assignment to Italy to help the post-colonial Somalia, entrusting the Italian administration of the territories of their former colony from 1950 to 1960.

Italian Air Force operated in Somalia with different aircraft, 4 NA P51D Mustang, 5 Stinson L5, 10 Douglas C47, 5 Beech C45 and 2 NA T6H.
The call-sign was "Boso", the Italian Pilots flew 10,751 hours, in Medevac, SAR and Postal duties.

:)

This is the kit, Accademy 1/72 (an improved clone of the old and beautiful Heller).

I think that modeling is a subtle mix of zen philosophy and absolute crazyness - but in my case I would not dare to specify the respective percentage of each......

That does look good, much better than the Heller offering. The rear IP is tiny anyway, who would notice it is missing?

So far there is three of us building this kit.
Good for me, cause when I get back from London I can see it's progress before I'm gonna butcher it, what to look out for etc. :ha:
Honestly though, I hear this is a great kit.
Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...

Hi Giulio,

Nice work so far, at least I can see now how its supposed to go together!

When you say the Rear IP is missing, do you mean lost? As there should be one - its part 12 or 13..

Stuart

Sometimes, I'm lucky.
The innocent victims of the beast that lives in the darkness under my table, managed to escape before being eaten, to appease his hunger primordial.

The rear instrument panel, was found while shouting desperately:
"HELP! HERE I AM!

The cockpit is finished, I've give a coat of green, paint the little details with black and yellow, and give a drybrush with oil colour, White Titanium.

Start to cut the tail plans. :)

She's the marvelous Olivia Wilde in "Tron Legacy".
Tron Saga is one of my "cult" movies. :)

Shes rather striking....

I haven't seen that film, I'll have to check it out. I like a good bit of sci-fi.

Don't be scared about the clamps, the fit is very good, not perfect, but good.
Maybe there will be some small fillings in a couple of areas, but nothing serious.
I changed the handle of the stick, I cut and replace the US handle with the round RAF handle..... my "Texan" is a Canadian build "Harvard", like all those in charge of AMI (Italian Air Force).
I hope that one day someone will look into the cockpit and say:
"Bravo! The handle of the stick is English Type, not American Type! "
I have to reflect on what inspires me to take care of certain details .....
And I realize that in the photos I took, the new handles are not seen .......
How would say Kevin Flynn: ".....go ahead, as long as it does not interfere with my zen mood. I'm going to listen to the stars." (From the movie -Tron Legacy-)

Image

Now, I think of what to do, with one of the worst reproductions of a radial engine I've ever seen........
