Jeff's Texan with an accent.***Finished*****

OK so here we go.

I will be building the Monogram AT6 Texan circa 1979 in 1/48th scale.

This kit has been re-popped several times and it is a good one. Raised detail but nicely done and overall fit pretty good. I have several of these which have provided parts for other projects but I still have a complete kit to build here.

Innards:



Lots of parts with two very nice pilot and instructor figures included. Back in the good old days when Bill Koster worked for Monogram.

Instructions and decals:



Decals for USAAF and US Navy aircraft which are quite good with a flat finish. Not sure if I will use them.

My thoughts are to do the Harvard that Robert Mitchum borrows in Reunion at Fairborough. DG/DE/Trainer Yellow.

Looks like a nice kit, not sure about the chap on the sprue who appears to be dancing, is that the Lego jig I hear so much about?

I think it'll look great in 1/48th.

I remember those old Monogram 1/48, have built some of them. Glad the decals are usable. I wasn't that lucky with my kits.

Robert Mitchum is a great actor, seen lots of his movies, but not this one.

Just seven parts make up the cockpit. A little creative painting and it really pops.



Ah, the dancing figure. That one represents the flight instructor standing with one foot on the wing and the other on an entry step. He is telling the student, "Be careful you don't get yourself killed!"

Everything fits inside the fuselage halves and pictures of that are right around the corner.

The scheme I am choosing is AT6 HArvard G-AZSC when it was painted for the movie Reunion at Fairborough. It was flown near the end of the movie over Greenham Common and intercepted by the Hunter Memorial Flight. At that time it was painted DG/DE and Trainer yellow. I chose that scheme because of the many schemes worn by the Harvard, you do not see that one very often. I have the movie on VHS and will have to watch it again and take notes.

I am sure you are right Paul. Anyway, that's the scheme. There is a lot on the aircraft on the net. Apparently it suffered damage from a forced landing. Gary Numan was a reported owner.

With this shot I am giving it a rest for this evening.



Overall fit is good but using either nose piece (trainer or gun mount) there is a rather large step that needed attention. You can see effort in the picture. Only took a minimum amount of time to correct and the wing went on with no effort. I used strips of tape to maintain the dihedral while the glue set up.
