Re: Miss-Stang's Airfix 1/72 Texan/Harvard
A bit more masking and I have now sprayed the silver (well, it's Humbrol 27002 Polished Aluminium to be precise)
Now we wait for drying time before all the masking comes off! And so we wait............

Re: Miss-Stang's Airfix 1/72 Texan/Harvard
Thanks Sir T!
Well, I have now pulled off all the masking tape (except the canopy) and it's looking....... Bright!
I like the fluorescent orange against the grey and silver. Although the masking up was a pain I am now glad I chose the South African colour scheme, it's quite dazzling!
Next job is to glue the engine and cowling assembly on the front and then mask up (again!) for the black anti-glare area.
But I'll let the silver go off a bit more first. More waiting!
Looking forward to decals.

Thanks for the encouraging comments Nigel!
The masking was painstaking but I do think it was worth it.

Very bright and colorful! Will be fantastic with the decals on.
Your masking seems to be very successfull as well.

Re: Miss-Stang's Airfix 1/72 Texan/Harvard
I have now put the cowling and engine on the front, then I gave the whole thing a coat of Klear ready for decaling and then masked up and painted the anti-glare black area on the nose.
I am pleased about how clear the canopy came out, you can see my pilot dudes quite clearly, I am glad I added them now.
Next job is to put all the little bits on (undercarriage, wing lights etc.) and then it'll be ready for decaling! I am looking forward to doing the decals, I like doing decals!

Looking good and bright. Your canopy is excellent. I tend to add all the little bits like lights/ aerials/uc etc after decalling though.
Enjoyment over accuracy. That's my motto

I concur with Toby. It would be easier to decal without all the little sticky out bits added.

Now that looks great. Up North we would call that a 'Bobby Dazzler'.
Those canopy lines are superb & the pilots make the whole cockpit look busy.

Re: Miss-Stang's Airfix 1/72 Texan/Harvard *FINISHED*
Hi everyone, thanks for all the encouraging and supportive comments on my first Group Build!
I have to confess I wasn't sure that I'd finish it in time as I'm a very slow worker but that said, it is complete
The kit went together very well generally and only a small amount of filler needed around the joins of the wings and the tail planes. My only real gripe, as I said in earlier posts, was that there was no pilots (sorted by a rummage in the spares box) and the fact that the cowling came in two pieces. But a little filler and sanding sorted this problem.
The colour scheme that I chose was perhaps the hardest, thus setting me a bit of a masking challenge for my first GB, but a little patience paid off
Basically it was OOB, the only modifications were drilling out the exhaust pipe. The aerial wire is Aeroclub rigging and the whip aerial was stretched sprue.
Hope you all like it!

That's a very attractive scheme, and I think you've done a great job on it.
All that masking sure paid off, didn't it?
I'm really glad you enjoyed your first GB.
