Blohm's Tiny Chinook *COMPLETED*

Post by BlohmWolf »

Here I will be building the ACE 1/144 Chinook Helicopter. It is the reboxing of the revell one, but with a new decal scheme for a Vietnam period chinook.

I have no pictures now. But as soon as my bench is up and running, I will do both it and the vampire for the other GB!

Excellent choice, the chinook was the standard medium helo of the US forces in Vietnam, usually used to move artillery quickly.

Its something!

Some pics of the kit:

Image

The box art shows a older chinook taking off from an airfield, and by using a real picture of a fairly combat-used chinook, it shows how they should look when finished.

Image

For a small chopper, there is 94 parts included, and all of them will be needed.

Image

The plastic is very smooth and the panel lines are quite nice too, a wash will really make them stand out.

Image

For some of the objects tiny size, (The wheels being 3.5 MM big each) They are very well detailed, the picture may not bring them out, but the wheel does have the lines on it to show rubber.

Image

Wow. These seats are great. Moulded on seatbelts for this scale are superb, and the same goes for the other small objects, the instrument panel features leavers and knobs, buttons and switches, and all this is moulded in plastic. I will definitely not let this good detail go to waste. This has to be given the full proper treatment!

More to come as soon as I fix my airbrush!

That is a great looking kit BW, with some excellent detail for the small scale. There are 1/72 offerings out there that have far less detail than this little fella - take my old dog Phantom for instance, somebody, please :ha:

Finally, I can upload some progress pics!
Image

The seats were sprayed first with Tamiya Black-Green, then detail painted with a Tiny brush with small pots Humbrol Acrylic paint.

They are a bit messy, but for their incredibly tiny scale, it was hard just to paint them at all!

Image

I also sprayed and detailed the inside of the hull, which turned out nicely, I think.

Cockpit also got a paint job and slight weathering to it.

Seats installed:

And just to show you how small this cockpit is, allow me to place a Humbrol Acrylic pot next to it:

Now just to close up the fuselage, with a full paint job sprayed all over, then leave it to dry:

I should get somewhere near completing this week, if I get enough time to work on it. But until then, it stays pegged and clamped!

Great work BW, that cockpit is very small but perfectly formed and has detail that is making me very jealous

The level of detail on those parts would be impressive in 1/72, but in 1/144??? Amazing.

Thanks everyone!

I've gotten a lot done on this chinook throughout this week. I'm currently up to varnishing it with revell's enamel varnish range to get a shiny surface for decals, so expect pictures coming soon!

You've waited nearly 3 weeks, and it is finally done.

I messed up with the varnish before, but I easily took it off and started again. Paints used: Tamiya Olive green (Which I think is too dark for the model) Revell Matt black 8 and Humbrol Metalcote 27002.

I only got a couple of pics before the battery died, so when my phone is fully charged I will take some more in depth, detailed shots.
