Re: Toby's Skyraider
Keep at her Toby, those decals might be a bit of a pain to use, but they don't half look good!
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Nice one Toby, that is shaping up really well. Plenty of things to go bang slung under there

Re: Toby's Skyraider
To be fair I haven't had a chance to try this with Printscale decals but I've found a 50% solution of Klear & water does an excellent job of bedding down decals & allows plenty of time for moving them into place. I've got the microscale system but never had to use it. Oops meant to say, nice job on this old girl, really looking forward to seeing it done.

Re: Toby's Skyraider
Finally done.
The markings are for the A-1H( the kit's a A-1J but I don' think there's a lot of visual difference from what I could research) from Sq VA-176c carrier USS Intrepid and was flown my Lt Patton who knocked down a Mig 17.
A few things that went wrong but I'll let you work out what they are
Decals(2 sets) from Printscale which weren't the easiest to put on. The bombs are mk 84s from Hasegawa's weapon selection 1.
Now back to my Yak that I put on hold before I started the Spad.

Re: Toby's Skyraider "Finished"
Nice one Toby and well done on your completion. That old Airfixer has scrubbed up fine and looks good posed on that carrier deck piece. I can't really see anything wrong with it and I don't like picking holes in other people's builds in any event. If it was mine, the main thing I wouldn't be 100% happy with would be the fit of the wings at the fold lines, which is often a tricky area to get neat on these old naval aircraft kits.

Smashing looking SPAD Toby. Those decals were well worth the effort

Re: Toby's Skyraider "Finished"
Actually I thought the wings went on quite well but I agree they could've been a bit more flush especially on the leading edges. The antenna is the bit that is wrong as the triangle that I added myself should have been nearer the canopy and the antenna wire should fix onto the small mount that is just visible in front of it now.ShaunW wrote:Nice one Toby and well done on your completion. Many thanks for the appreciation shown by everyone so far. I think this is the best I've done since returning to modelling and it did try my patience at times. A lot of times in fact but that was primarily the decals of which I now have a large amount if spares. I have just purchased the Brengun models version of the infamous toilet bomb that was used on a Spad to commemorate the six millionth pound of ordnance that was dropped on Vietnam and I've just got another Skyraider off eBay. Happy days.
