The Great Central Railway Steam Gala 3rd-6th Oct 2013 - I went on Saturday 5th.
A great day out - caught the first passenger train at 9am from Loughborough to Leicester North with a specific view to have a full breakfast in the Buffet - which me and the missus did - hauled by a double header of 4-6-2 Battle of Britain class No. 34070 "Manston" and 4-6-0 King Arthur class No.30777 "Sir Lamiel".
Here are a selection of my photos:
GNR Gresley Class N2 0-6-2T tank engine passing on a demonstration freight train.
The aforementioned "Manston" awaiting its next duty.
LMS Stanier Class 8F 2-8-0 No.48624 with observation car - taken from the DMU window. The DMU shuttles between Loughborough and the Passing Loop at Swithland giving people the chance to see two trains passing in opposite directions at speed on the main lines - Sir Lamiel passed almost as soon as the 8F had gone by (too quickly for me to photograph it).
The Metro-Cammell Class 101 DMU back at the depot at Loughborough.
Sir Lamiel at Loughborough late in the afternoon
No.47406 0-6-0 "Jinty" on the freight train at Loughborough
Seen from the platform at Quorn, this being the station to alight at to watch the Travelling Post Office demonstration.
Another look at the 8F (unusual in that this LMS design was actully built at Ashford Works on the Southern Region).
Here are links to a couple of clips of video I took, one being the Travelling Post Office. Other clips can be found on my Facebook page (Alan Bean).

I have to admit I'm not a train enthusiast Al, I don't really know much about them (other than some basic knowledge of the history of the London Underground), but these are truly lovely photos of the great age of steam, it all looks lovely and nostalgic, makes me come over all Fred Dibnah!
Thanks for sharing the photos All.

Great shots, Al !
I love Heritage Rail; I don't think we have near the number and type available here, nor the opportunities for runs, although I am aware of the difficulties between commercial & heritage on main line tracks. Of course it doesn't help that I live no where near any sort of rail system ....

Nice photos, I like them, but my dad would love them. He's a steam lover.

I will be adding to this soon. Lake Superior and Ishpeming RR (Iron Ore carriers) and Canadian National stuff in our area. I will post the pictures but someone with knowledge can ID the subject.

Great photos Al. Steam engines are very photogenic. Our heritage line from Ottawa-Gatineau to Wakefield, QC is out of action at the moment because of landslips on the track.
