AndrewR's Embarrassed Sabre... ***Prevarication Ended***

Finish off those kits which are stalled on the workbench, languishing on the sidelines, or lurking on The Shelf of Doom.

AndrewR's Embarrassed Sabre... ***Prevarication Ended***

Post by AndrewR »

So here we are. A nice red Sabre, the new tool Airfix kit, a very pleasant build, nice decals from Eurodecal and...
...I didn't finish it.

Image

It's possible I'll have time to do something on this one tonight. The tanks need to go on the wings, which wouldn't take very long :-D

cheers

Vallejo Air Fire Red - subtly different from their scarlet red, and over a white primer. Great coverage, I had no problems getting a good coat.

Cheers

The Model Colour range are for brush work and are very nice. The Vallejo Air range have finer pigment particles and are pre-thinned for airbrushes. Most of them don't brush that well. The exceptions are the VA metallics which are brilliant with either brush or airbrush. Their varnishes and primers are also great. I don't use anything else now.

It looks very nice Andrew.

A quick finish beckons with this one I think.

Some progress this afternoon:

Image

The drop tanks and the undercarriage are now in place. It looks like I forgot to paint the outboard main undercarriage doors, so they've been primed. I've decided to pose the kit with the airbrakes open, so I've needed to paint the hydraulics. The tyres also needed some touching up and I'll need to redo the hubs too.

cheers

Looks good in red. I'm getting the itch to build another sabre. Luckily I have a few in the stash to choose from.

I have another Airfix one, and a Matchbox F-86A, generously donated by Snowbird, to finish in yellow, as a Montana ANG kite. :)

The wheels were repainted with VA aluminium, diluted with soapy water to stop any surface tension causing droplets forming. I still want to retouch the front wheel with tyre grey, but they're not bad. While I had the paintbrush out, I also did the rear canopy framing in aluminium too. I did nearly forget to put the flat bits of the tyres at the bottom

Image

I've also touched up the interiors of the wheel wells and airbrake housings with a bit of Bronze Green Primer (great stuff!). The plane is jurrrrst about sitting on the wheels, I do hope that adding the airbrake doors doesn't tip it up!

I'm not happy about the black framing on the front of the canopy. I will be sorting that out later.

cheers
