VV's Condor gets flapping
Yes, another in the Biggles collection, but this is probably the pinnacle of Biggles model building for me. This represents the "Vickers Amphibian" used in Biggles and the Cruise of the Condor. If you have not read this book, DO SO NOW! It's a brilliant fusion of Indiana Jones and flying and easily my favourite from the series.
The kit is a Supermarine Seamew by Karaya in resin. It's about the closest thing to the silhouette in the illustrations. Ultimately it will be teamed with a Douglas PD-1 I also have, to complete a diorama from the final illustration of the book:
http://www.biggles.info/Details/02/Illustrations/;
A scene in which, with nothing else to hand, Algy brings down a plane load of machinegun toting gangsters using a well-flung oil can (it hits the centre-section, with predictable results). Tally-ho Algy!
I started this years back and it has lain unloved for far too long. Here it is, with Biggles in the pilot seat, Algy mid-fling and passengers Biggles' archaeologist uncle Dickpa and Smythe the mechanic. The cockpit opening was moved back and as the Seamew is a military kite, all gunnery positions/scarff rings have been removed and filled.
Can I finish it by the 30th? I certainly hope so. It deserves to be completed. I'll probably have to forego any wood effect on the hull.

Karaya's Seaplanes are a bit lovely so will follow with interest!

Re: VV's Vickers Amphibian "Condor" (1/72 resin Karaya Seame
Thanks all.
James, your Karaya build for the flying boat GB was an absolute inspiration. I will come nowhere near the quality of that but it has been one of the things that made me want to get back into this.
So, I finally had an hour or so of bench time. The cockpit is only designed for one so fitting both the figurines was a bit of a struggle but I managed it....sort of....
I also threw on a bit of sand yellow as a primer to see if my sanding was up to scratch. Still needs some work

This is coming along nicely VV. It does look a bit cramped as you say.

Re: VV's Condor gets flapping
November was a bad time for me for a GB
Very time poor. Anyway, I'll soldier on.
I wasn't happy with any of the browns I had for the fuselage so I've finally managed to get to my LMS to find a good match.
But now I'm off for the weekend so nothing is likely to happen for a few days. Hopefully I'm not staring down the barrel of a DNF. We'll see....

I don't think we have DNF for this GB, we just have "Status Quo"VickersVandal wrote:November was a bad time for me for a GB

And while finishing is always nice, it's good to just make progress with a project too So don't sweat it.VickersVandal wrote:November was a bad time for me for a GB

Re: VV's Condor gets flapping
Thanks gents. I'm making a bit of progress on it so I may get there. The struts are a bit of a nightmare to figure out, not being numbered since its a resin kit.

Re: VV's Condor gets flapping
Well, I didn't get er done. This is the sum total I've managed to do, below.
Wings painted, hull painted and wood effect on struts.
November has not been the tiniest bit kind to me in terms of modelling time.
Sigh.....
