Splash's forgotten Wessex Mk 5

OK change of plan, I love Green Wessex's but they tend to be dull when you add the low viz black markings to them, before the Falklands the Wessex used to be Green with bright white ROYAL NAVY and call signs plus red white and blue roundels.

When the Seaking Mk4 came into service and took over from the 846 squadron Wessex 5's, several of the green Wessex got transferred to 771 SAR flight down at Couldrose and were just given red noses and body bands with white markings, so my cunning plan is to brighten up my Wessex by over spraying it as a 771 SAR a/c like the picture below.

That's a great scheme Splash and will certainly make for a colourful whirlybird.

Very cunning plan, Splash.

So cunning that you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel  .

I think it's a great idea and, naturally in a GB with this theme, you are allowed to prevaricate about the colour scheme ;-) .

I finally got off my backside and did something tonight.

As you can see I have masked and sprayed the white undercoat for the red.

I can see why you chose this colour scheme now Splash. It makes the Wessex look even more purposeful and breaks up the drab green. Nice one 8-)

I think I will have to pull out of this GB, I just tried to add the Italari decals and all the letters in the white Royal Navy separated and curled up  plus some of the marking are to big for example the oblong shape that fits just aft of the rotor head, it's a shame they have made a good kit but given us crap decals.

If I can source more decals I will carry on, if not it will be a did not finish for a second time

Sorry to hear this Splash, it would have been a good looking model. Hopefully you will be able to source some alternative decals.

I'm sure you'll find some decals for it, and the GB has moved the construction on nicely. :)

I have some spare Matchbox Wessex decals - they have white Royal Navy titles, amongst others. PM me your address if you are interested.

Thanks Paul for your kind offer, I have ordered a set of decals that should do the job, if they don't I will drop you a pm.
