OT's Corsair Calamity
This beastie has been hanging around for years, since I was a kid in fact. The box is faded & the plastic yellowed in places!
I did try to resurrect it a while back but the rather poor engine and a vac form canopy deterred me. I was converting it to an F2G version built by Goodyear as used in Japan post war by the Commonwealth Occupation forces.
So it will be midnight blue all over with full colour RAF markings. That's the plan anyway.

Re: OT's Corsair Calamity
It's certainly a worthwhile build given the amount of time it's been languishing. Is this the longest delayed build of the GB I wonder?

Re: OT's Corsair Calamity
Sorry guys, I should have said. Its the old Airfix 1/48 kit.ShaunW wrote:This is ready for a resurrection then OT - who is the kit manufacturer?
Not really my scale, maybe that is why I stumbled on the build.

Its really Otaki's Corsair from the late 70s OT, Airfix leased the mold.

Blue Corsairs always look good. Are you going to detail up the engine?
cheers

Good titbit of info, thanks.Chris wrote:Its really Otaki's Corsair from the late 70s OT, Airfix leased the mold.
Better than that, I bought this quickboost replacement:AndrewR wrote:Blue Corsairs always look good. Are you going to detail up the engine?
Andrew
Never used any of their stuff before but it looks so much better than the original kit part:
YUCK.
The engine is now attached with epoxy resin. This is the second time I have attached it. It fell off when I used super glue.
I think that is why the build stalled last time. This build has stalled a few times over the years!.
I visited the Fleet Air Arm Museum this summer & took some snaps of the real thing.
I noted that the wiring was very visable so have started to add some to the new engine using fuse wire.
I think we can all agree that it will look much better than the original.
Now just need to get the wiring finished, cowl on then fettle the vacform canopy. I hate canopies.

The Quickboost engine has made all the difference OT, I can't believe how bad that OOB effort is!

Re: OT's Corsair Calamity
Absolutely awesome looking engine OT. It certainly was worth replacing the kit item and the extra wiring is the icing on the cake. This Corsair is going to be a stunning model.

Having dog bones as cylinders adds a certain cartoon quality to the model... I suppose they made a dog's breakfast of it...ShaunW wrote:The Quickboost engine has made all the difference OT, I can't believe how bad that OOB effort is!

Re: OT's Corsair Calamity
I agree with all the above. You'd have thought Airfix would have made more of an effort on the engine in 1:48....
I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....
