Jeff's Shinden***Finished***
Jeff's Shinden***Finished***
Here we go with a kit that was started when it first came out and I have no idea why it languished since around 1980. Wonders why I never lost any parts.
But I think the cockpit looks pretty good so lets get it done.

Re: Jeff's Shinden
I built one of these last year. I find it to be one of the most unique aircraft ever built yet I rushed through the build. Can't wait to see more of this one

It's always hard to tell which way this thing should be flying!

Re: Jeff's Shinden
I like the Shinden, it looked very cool in flight.
Is this the Revell one or the Hasegawa?

Hasegawa 1/48. This is from around 1980 vintage.

Re: Jeff's Shinden
This morning before work I added the landing gear legs. Painted the lowers IJN Grey using Polly Scale my paint of choice. Seemed to be recharged thanks to this GB. Can't for the life of me figure out why I let this one languish like I did.
The landing gear is long and spindly. The mains rake forward which give it an strange stance. But, it sets on all three. A missing piece has been discovered. The port inner gear door is missing but sheet styrene will correct that. Miracles upon miracles: The little wheels that are mounted to the vertical stabilizers had broken off during the construction but they were in the tray. On the real aircraft they prevented the pilot from over-rotating the nose and striking the propeller on the runway.

Re: Jeff's Shinden
The Shinden certainly is an interesting looking contraption and I always feel it would be better as a jet, it just looks jet-like. My construction skills in 1980 were certainly not as good as yours Jeff!
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Jeff's Shinden
Thanks Shaun. Lets hope I can keep it together. As I recall, it was not all that easy, fit wise, to put together which is why I got so far and packed it in. Heck, I was just getting to the good part.
I have read conflicting reports but there were actually two of these that flew for a total of 45 minutes and possible two other airframes that never flew. Also read that it had a terrible torque effect to the right due to the pusher propeller but flew rather nice. And four 30mm cannons in the nose could have really tore things up. Especially B-29's.

Very cool aircraft and well done on keeping all the parts together for so long.

This mornings update. Good steady progress.
Landing gear in place with doors attached.
Replacement inner gear door being fashioned out of sheet styrene.
Propeller shaft is mis-placed so a section of sprue is fashioned as a substitute.
thinking about masking in preparation for painting the uppers.
