Re: OT's Heinkel of shame
This is the state of play today:
Lots of masking but not too trying.
As you can see I have done no interior painting inside the fuselage which is obviously going to be very visable once the to gun position canopy is installed.
Damn Revell for their clear canopies. I will have to remedy this.
The canopy mask however is a real b!#*h to fit.
I still need to build & mask off the underside gondola but I will do that between coats of RLM 71.
Also, a few bits & pieces to install but I will get the main paintwork done whilst I am in the mood.
Better find some BoB era decals too! I guess I should have thought of that before now.

Re: OT's Heinkel of shame
All that masking for the canopy and a splinter scheme too! I'd need a cup of tea and a lie down after a task like that .
I can see that this is turning into something special OT. Kudos to you for resurrecting this kit and getting stuck in to it with such dedication .

Re: OT's Heinkel of shame
Thanks Dazzled. Not sure it will be anything special but it should look like a He-111.
It is a lovely kit, I'm just a bit daunted with spray painting something of this size but I fixed my airbrush with a bit of bees wax and had a go.
A couple of RLM 71 coats later:
After some drying time (I am not very patient ) the great reveal, tail first just to see:
Not too bad, just a subtle differance in the colours so off it all came:
I am well chuffed. Just lifted off in one small area so an easy touch up.
Now all I need to do is paint the underside. Yes I know that is the wrong way round. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Don't be put off by brush painting, I made one of these lovely kits last year using brush painted Xtracolour and the BoB tradecal set and i was very pleased with the results, just want to find a ju 88a1 in 72 scale so that i can make the version on the same sheet lol

I have been waiting for 20 years for a Ju-88A1 in 1/72 scale.piggypod1 wrote:Don't be put off by brush painting, I made one of these lovely kits last year using brush painted Xtracolour and the BoB tradecal set and i was very pleased with the results, just want to find a ju 88a1 in 72 scale so that i can make the version on the same sheet lol

What's the Airfix kit then? Is it not an A-1?

A4 were used but almost as the battle was over, mainly a1's and a5's really hoped Revell were gonna bring one out as they make a terrific A1 in 1/32 scale, think they missed the boat

Re: OT's Heinkel of shame
I use a Chinese (knock off?) made airbrush which after just a couple of weeks stopped working. It came with the compressor. I soon found a web page (god bless Google ) that identified the problem of poor quality washers being used that degrade quickly leading to loss of air pressure. As the article said, simply removed the defective washer & replace with bees wax thus restoring the seal. Nice cheap fix.ShaunW wrote:What's the bees wax fix all about?
We keep bees (although they all died this year ) so the wax was not a problem.
Got a bit more done last night before the pub beckoned. Just to emphasize the engineering quality of the kit here is the top gun ring:
It slots straight in for a perfect fit. Bravo Hasegawa.
This morning before work I got the bomb bay doors fitted, again no glue needed as they were spot on. I glued them anyway. Same with the underside engine\undercarriage bay & doors. It's nice when parts fit.
I also used a little filler along the wing to fuselage join but just a sliver.
I will try to get the underside gondola masked off this lunchtime ready to attach later. I must check my references as I think there is a differance between the H2 gondola & the H6 one from the kit.
More later I hope.
