I can just see the contrast in the greys, Paul, but I tend to agree that a little more wouldn't hurt.

David - in the end, I decided that the contrast is just enough. Just...

Mike - no way...! But, I have another plan for SAMi.

All the bits are on - just needs decals and a dull coat....

So, I will need a short extension - I hope to finish up tomorrow night or Tuesday.

Extension granted as you are so close.

You have done a wonderful job on this old kit Paul. I will use it as a tutorial when I build mine.

Well, the decals are on.....

Image

Image

The decals were by Fantasy Workshop and were thin, fragile and stuck like glue when applied - I managed to rip four including two of the roundels. Despite the Future coat, I an already see that they are going to silver. And you can see the dark line around the outside of the roundels where the white base doesn't extend as far as the red overcoat. Not happy.

Just needs a dullcoat to finish.

Not at all happy with this one. This is what happens when I try to rush to meet a deadline, and why I'm increasingly coming to the conclusion that I'm just not a Group Build type of person. I simply can't devote the time to them that they properly deserve. If I were able to model every night, as some of you seem to be able to do, then I'm sure I could produce better GB models. As it is, I can really only model on the weekends, and that just isn't cutting it. Sure, I enjoy the camaraderie, but the quality of my GB finishes is really pretty awful.

You are right. Absolutely awful. I just wish my models turned out as awful as that did, Paul. :-D

David

PS - The decals sound frustrating. I have some spare Swiss roundels somewhere if you want to overlay them but I've no idea how good they are. The model itself looks great. Stop being so hard on yourself.

PPS - Your models and helpful posts are one of the things that got me back into this hobby after a severe case of 'lost mojo'.

Well, thank you for the kind words, David; I appreciate it. I need to look at it with a fresh pair of eyes in the morning - I'd just got done with the decaling when I posted and was very, very frustrated and disappointed. I have some spare roundels - the kit came with Swiss markings - but they typical Matchbox...

I agree with dwomby - I wish I could achieve such awful results.

I hear what you are saying about time commitments though. Please don't stop doing group builds. It's not a crime not to finish (look at my track record  ).
I came to the conclusion a while back that if I am not going to finish don't force it. This is supposed to be enjoyable afterall.

Once again - a cracking build from that old kit.

Cheers, OT.

Trouble is, I already have enough unfinished projects in The Closet of Doom - I don't need to add to them...! ;-) Simply put, I will need to cut back on my GB participation if I am to finish, and finish to my liking. It is certainly supposed to be fun, but for me it's not fun to not finish. :-| More re-assessment is needed over Christmas - I'll be away from the bench from Sunday until New Year's, so I'll have some time to relax and de-stress in general. At least my back is getting better!!

Good try Paul, maybe the GBs should last 2 months instead of one or six weeks.

I read your remarks yesterday Paul and decided to think before I commented (I know, a first for me!). Firstly your builds are good, I know you are peed off about the decals and rightly so but that's not down to your modelling skills. I also know from personal experience that pain can colour one's perception of one's modelling abilities. I would agree that some GBs are too short, there is no room for life and/or health issues getting in the way and this can be a bit off putting. Please also consider that you are a first class GB host, even allowing for the terrible jokes.

There, that's me done with being serious!

Well, that's very decent of you to say so, Martin, I appreciate it.

I still haven't looked at it properly yet, though I plan on getting the dullcoat on at lunchtime tomorrow, and calling it done then.
