For the Malvinas! ****FINISHED****
For my project I have selected a 1/48 ESCI Mirage II in Argentine colors.
This is an older kit from a company now out of business, but the molds belong to Italeri and they release them now and then. The kit includes decals for 2 versions, mine of course will be a Falklands warrior.

Re: For the Malvinas!
The first step is to build the cockpit, no pilot figure is included
Next this is glued into the fuselage, and weight is added as this is a nose sitter, I used a bolt, broken and old xacto blades and nails held in with white glue. This was also done in the nose cone.
Next the fuselage is joined and the nose added, this was allowed to dry for a bit.
The wings were constructed next, when joined to the fuselage they had huge canyons on each side, so it was putty time. The tail also had a filler piece to add that needed putty, I used testor's tube putty, which is actually easier to use then squadron green stuff, my previous putty choice
While the putty dried I added the air intakes, these had excellent fit and required no putty
Once the putty had dried, the tape was removed and the cracks were gone
The last few small pieces were added
The canopy is masked and glued with white glue to the aircraft, which is set aside to dry over night, tomorrow painting starts.

Gotta strike while the moment is hot OT, haven't felt like building so much in a long time, besides, I have two more Mirages in the stable.Old_Tonto wrote:Whilst I applaud your enthusiasm Chris, & you are going at Blitzbau speed.

Re: For the Malvinas!
The underside is sprayed lt gray
Topside gets a coat of tan
Silly putty is used to mask the camo pattern
Medium green is sprayed next
The putty is removed and we are looking good
The nose and tail have some details painted
The model is sprayed with clear laquer and the decals are applied, and sealed the same way
Flat laquer is sprayed next

Re: For the Malvinas!
Thanks David, all that is left now are the underwing hard points, the missles and the landing gear.
The gear I have already painted and I started on the missles.

Re: For the Malvinas!
Very nicely done Chris. I like the silly putty idea, will have to try that some time.
You will have time to build a dozen at this pace.

Re: For the Malvinas!
Assembled the landing gear, and a snag has appeared.
I cut off one of the large wheel bay doors, but wanted to check the net since the instructions said while landed it was flush, and saw on the net it is usally not completely closed. So I went back to glue it on, but it was time for a TV show I watch so I set it down and went and watched the show, when I returned, it was gone! Vanished! I searched for 2 hours through the work area and still could not find it, I'll try again tomorrow if not I will have to fabricate the door, a real pain in the butt.
