Re: '69 Dodge Daytona - B-17 Style
I have one of these in my stash, and very nearly did this one my self, intending to do a P61 inspired paint job, but could not find nose art that I liked enough to inspire me. May be I'll find one I like while trawling the shows, so onto the back burner for the moment.
I wish, that I knew what was doing!

Re: '69 Dodge Daytona - B-17 Style
OK, I had a couple of sci-fi builds going on which have now finished. So the bench is now cleared and I can concertrate on this.
I had done a little work on the engine but now I've cleared some space I put the instructions and a picture of a B-17 cockpit on the wall.
I've painted a few bits of the engine and also started on the interior. The seats are getting a coat of H78 cockpit green. I'm not being exact on my colours. Why? Because I don't have to!
So there is my start. A bit more work on the engine and cockpit over the weekend. Time permitting.

Isn't taking a guess at colours normal practice? What? you're telling me that there are people out there who actually try to find out the actual, correct, colours?!?!?!

I like the idea of painting the interior cockpit green, I never thought of that when painting my Mini.

I've not thought of interior painting. Will probably go with something that looks good.
Nice start.

Nice start. I'll be using Interior grey green on my Mini too.

Looking good so far! I too will do my interior in a colour that reflects the plane it is based on. Glad I'm not alone on this!

Don't look at me Shaun, I'm with you on this one! Don't forget the other variable in the equation, not just guessing what's right, but also what colours are 'In stock' in the paint drawer at the time has a bearing on colour choice too!ShaunW wrote:Isn't taking a guess at colours normal practice? Re: '69 Dodge Daytona - B-17 Style
As was often the case with cars from the 60's and 70's the engine block is meant to be the same colour as the main colour of the rest of the car. With this Dodge Daytona that would be an orange kind of shade. However as this is my B17 Dodge Daytona I'm going with the same green as I'm using for the interior.
That leads me on to a question, well maybe not a question, but something I'm wondering about the wheels. With this kit I get a nice chrome set of wheels. They will look quite nice on this one. But I'm thinking of painting them grey. As the wheels on a B-17 would be.
What do you think of this idea? Would you leave them chrome so you can retain some of that car look? After all this is a car! Or seeing as the rest of the car will be in B-17 colours would you paint them grey?
I think there's merit in both to be honest. I have already made my decision but am interested in what you think. Then I'll let you know what I decided to do!
In the meantime here is the bench as it stands.

Great looking engine and the two tone green interior looks good too.
As for the wheels, you could paint the centres grey and leave the rims chrome.

This is looking great! That Hemi' engine looks super mate!
As for the wheel debate, I (almost) went the same way, I was going to paint my wheels a dull aluminium colour as befitting the aeroplane. But..... when I saw how cool they looked in chrome (and having never seen chrome bits in a kit before) I couldn't bring myself to do it! They looked too nice!
Your concept of how you're painting and working on this is almost identical to my concept on my one. We are obviously thinking alike. I too went with a typical aircraft interior green colour on my car interior.

Coming along nicely Narayan.
Your interior looks good and I quite like the idea of spraying the 'block' in the same colour
As for your wheels, you could do as Tim suggested (painting the centre grey and leaving rims chrome)or if you're like me, then you probably wouldn't be able to resist leaving it all chrome. But then, us girls, we like a bit of 'bling'

Some classy paint work going on there, the green colours certainly set each other off.
Re. the debate, I think it depends entirely on what end resuly you are after. Do you want a plane in the shape of a car, or a car with a plane colour scheme. Personally I am doing the later.

Thank you all for the kind comments. Progress seems to be really slow on this one. But I am working away on it! A lot of painting on the interior and chassis going on at the moment. More pictures to follow soon.

Great work Narayan. As for the wheels, I like the sound of Tim's suggestion with the grey centres and chrome rims.
