Ians E-Type Jag Gr.1 ** Complete **
Re: Ians E-Type Jag Gr.1
You're too kind, Zee. I am far from being the master!
I've added a couple of coats or Barley Grey to the back and and round the sides. Looks like some of my tape has lifter so I foresee some touching up in the near future. Another couple of coats should do it then I can start on the ripped panels.

How will you do the ripped panels, have you got a plan in your head?
Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...
Re: Ians E-Type Jag Gr.1
I was thinking along the lines of painting wavy black triangles, then filling in with 2 or 3 shades of silver/aluminium to give them some 'movement'.

That is looking rad! Well done on those spots! I feel your pain brush painting orange. I cringe every time I have to.

What an awesome paint job, really smart.
Have you tried putting a coat of klear on and leaving to dry before masking? That should stop the tape lifting the paint when unmasking.Ian wrote: Looks like some of my tape has lifter so I foresee some touching up in the near future.

Excellent work Ian, that looks groovy..errr..man. The klear trick should work to help stop paint lift, I use varnish for the same reason, especially on NMF areas.

Re: Ians E-Type Jag Gr.1
Sorry - I was unclear. Not paint lift. Some of the tape I have applied over the spots has lifted so the Barley Grey has probably leaked underneath it, thus requiring touch ups.

Re: Ians E-Type Jag Gr.1
So the ripping bodywork is painted.
I've used 3 silver shades to try to get a 'wavy' effect in the metal strips.
And some greys to try to get a 'shadow' effect underneath the metal strips.
Super-macro mode on my camera is not very forgiving (as you can see) but from further away it is quite effective. Just wish I'd used a darker grey for the back end of the car.

Thanks guys!
With the main bodywork compelted I've turned my attention to chrome and clear parts now. All the bumpers (fenders to our esteemed overseas cousins) have nasty sink marks!
Nothing worse than having to fill and sand fiddly bits that will break easily! I've also dipped one of the indicators into some clear orange. It's drying now but it looks OK. I have real issues painting with the Humbrol clear colours. I guess I could have used some orange food colouring in some Klear but I'll see how this is when it's dry. Also started painting the wheels.

Re: Ians E-Type Jag Gr.1
fantastic paintwork Ian, I am loving this, such an ambitious scheme!
Seriously though, this is looking so achingly cool in that scheme mate, I love it!

[Pedant mode on] No, you're OK mate, bumpers is bumpers both sides of the pond, fenders are what we call front and rear wings. Ordering parts form USA has taught me the hard way, if you order a 'Rear Wing' over the phone, you get sent a boot spoiler!
