General Rocket stretches the point
Originally it was my intention to build the M.P.C. Dodge Charger Daytona , in the style of a North American P61 Black Widow.
All this changed after visiting a charity shop a buying a part built "Wallace and Gromit Aeroplane". Despite her constant complaints about my models making the house look untidy, my 14 year old daughter took one look at the box and said "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad, when you've built that, can I have it please?"
You may recall the photograph of the disapproving look I received from her at the Cosford Aerospace Museum, Gerry Anderson show last year.
I contend that this kit is eligible for this build as the plane converts from the sidecar (Watsonian type) on Wallaces motorcycle, a Triumph Tiger Cub (yes, I am an all round anorak).
Checking the contents revealed it to be complete, but started with no paint applied, and the seat glued out of position.
The plastic is quite soft, so it was easy to take apart. This done the next step is to clean up the plastic.
I will of course, not be taking this build to seriously.

Re: General Rocket stretchs the point
It seems to qualify as it is an aero themed auto alright. Glad you're not taking this too seriously though!

Re: General Rocket stretches the point
Not a great deal of progress so far. I've cleaned the edges of glue and flash (very little). The surface seemed to be very shiny, so I have gone over it with some very fine Wet'n'Dry to give the paint something to grip. I've not bothered photographing it again as the work done does not show.

Atleast you've started. Look forward to seeing some pictures later though.

Re: General Rocket stretches the point
The progress this week.
Contrary to what I said earlier, here is a picture of a before and after picture of the wings, one sanded, the other not. Due to the very shiny nature of the plastic, I was concerned about the ability of the paint to bind.
After giving the model a coat of Citadel Chaos Black as an undercoat, I have started to paint the outside of the sidecar with a hairy stick, as all unrestored contemporary sidecars that I have seen where brush painted. This was done with ModelColor Red. I do like this brand, and this is the first time I have used this particular red, which so far seems to cover far less badly than other matt reds.
The seat has so far only received a coat of Tamiya Matt Brown, this will next receive a coat of Leather and will be the only part of the model that I plan to weather.
As usual, comments welcome.

Re: General Rocket stretches the point
I find red can be an awkward colour to use. Looks like you've made a nice start with it anyway.

Re: General Rocket stretches the point
It will take several coats to get a decent coating, but it seems more usable than the Humbrol or Revell offerings.

I also find that red can be a PITA, either applied by paintbrush or airbrush. My preferred bright red these days is Tamiya X-7, which I usually apply by airbrush - however, if you try it don't even go there trying to brush paint the stuff as it's a nightmare
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: General Rocket stretches the point
I find the best red to brush is clearly Revell Acrylic ones. I've had no problems with them. 2-3 thin coats is usually enough. However sometimes, will require 4-5.
I'm solely using Revell Acrylics for red (and yellow and white). Works great and I no longer fear brush painting these colors.

I find citadel red's thinned with model masters thinners, spray well over a light primer.
You red has gone on well over black, I look forward to seeing after another coat.

Re: General Rocket stretches the point
The Matt coat is now finished. It took me 4 coats to get a decent covering, and surface is quite smooth. Unfortunately the picture makes it look more pink than it really is, it is a good red colour.
The seat has been painted in Humbrol Authentic Colour MC27 Weathered Leather. Once it was brushed on, I gave it a quick buffing on the high points to get the used look.
The propeller has so far been painted in Matt Black on the rear surface, as an inventor like Wallace would be aware of the problems of reflected sunlight. The front has been done in Matt Aluminium, over this I intend to dry brush Metalcote Polished Aluminium for a slight sheen.
Next stage is to build it.

Lovely. Those propellors are just too cute.
