Hi again all,

Well I've done some work on the '57 Chevy and I can update my thread.

First of all, after an extensive (and boring!) masking session with tape and cling-film:

I finally finsihed painting the body by adding the chracteristic F-84 red bits, olive drab anti-glare panel and other bits and bobs. I thought I'd paint the tips of the tail fins red to represent the red tips on the wings and tail of the F-84 and the red side window frames represent the red centre canopy framing of the F-84:

Then work commenced on the chassis. After a personal exchange (ooo-er!) with forum member Zee28 I knew how to paint the engine bits. Man, does that guy know Chevrolets! He calls himself "A bit of an Anorak" but he's more like a walking Chevrolet Encyclopedia! He told me the engine would have been painted orange from the factory, and all the fuel injection bits that were chrome in the kit should be light aluminium and would never have been chromed. Who was I to argue, he really knows stuff! So I followed his suggestions and ended up with the finished floor and engine:

Thanks for looking, more soon!
Regards,

Is it sexist if I say you have a nice chassis? :-D

I like the red fin tips its very 50's and so right for the look of the car.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

It might have been extensive (and boring!) but that masking has really paid off. The body looks great. Chassis and engine are very nice too.

:ha: Well, I won't take offence if someone wants to compliment me on my chassis :ha:

Unfortunately I haven't done much over the last few days (started prepping for Christmas) but still hoping to get it finished before 23rd ;-)

In that case, you have a classy chassis, and very nice body work.
I wish, that I knew what was doing!

That is a splendid masking (and paint) result, Miss-Stang, the tedious job sure paid off. I envy you! ;-)

The silver and red looks spot on together. This will indeed be a beaty when done. Keep up the great work!

Hi everyone,

Just got this done in time! Phew! Christmas got in the way. Apologies for late update, but it's finally finished! :-D

Borrowing a photo of Forum Member Zee28's Airfix 1/72 F-84 to show inspiration, here is my '57 Chevy alongside (Cheers Zee):

Image Image

And the finished car!

Paint was Halfords aerosol Aluminium for the main body colour, Humbrol enamels for all the other bits.

This is the first car I've built and to be honest I am quite impressed by the way it went together, the parts fitted well. I mainly build planes but I liked the idea of the theme of this GB, but that said I think I am looking forward to getting back into planes in 2014. Happy New Year everyone! :-D

Thanks to everybody who's commented and encouraged me! Thanks all! :-D
