No pictures today, had a slight mishap in that one of the serial decals has gone missing from the remains of the sheet at some point so all that can now be done is to change the model to the almost identical mark 2 on the sheet, XZ577 of the same squadron four years later.
The barn door intake shield has been removed from the sprue and is being painted prior to fitting and the main paintwork has been done.

This is a serious turn for the worse, are you saying the carpet monster is now cutting out decals before eating them

This could account for the reason I can never find my decals when I need them, will that dam carpet monster ever give up?

I think the barn door improves the Seaking's looks, it gives it a more streamlined look.

I don't think it is cutting them out, rather it waits until you are not looking and then quickly pulls them off the table to quietly chew as desert.

The model is now primed in a light grey wash and coated in three thin brushed coats of a Revell Aqua mix based on a colour chip of vehicular RAF Blue-Grey 633, this has been thinly coated in gloss varnish ready for the decals. The sponsons will not be attached to the fuselage until after the decals have been applied and varnished over.

The Model Alliance decals (plus a few from the kit) are now on the model.

Coated in matt varnish the sponsons and stores can be fitted.

All the model now needs is the winch and the rotors and then my RN Sea King will be finished.

That's coming on brilliant, is that 824 squadron speed bird markings?

Yes it is Splash but I don't know why it differs from the simple white badge, the decal sheet does not explain its use- it may be to mark a display or an exercise perhaps?

David.
Thanks for the mark 4 link, this will be very useful.

All done at last, although it did not take as long to build as I expected it to this kit certainly does show its age and needs some TLc from an experienced modeller to build satisfactorily. The period SH-3D kit I built alongside this model is a perfect beginners model as it is as it was sold when new in past decades but this current release of the modified kit definately is not although it can scrub up quite well the Main parts just do not fit properly OOB anymore and the kit needs re-tooling NOW. This is no longer a good kit to give as a gift to a novice builder. That said it is inexpensive and widely available and for those reasons I do intend to build other examples in the coming year despite its age issues.

Looks a darned sight better than my recent attempt at this kit! Jolly well done.

Well done David that has scrubbed up very well indeed, considering all the faults you have had to fix in the kit.

I'm impressed with the way you have blended in the canopy as I know this is one of the poor parts of the kit and I look forward to seeing your next build.
