Tom's Middle MiL

Post by TomW »

Okay I couldn't resist the title

As I'm enjoying my other two builds quite a bit I thought I'd try for a third. There are still lots of chopper kits in my stash but in keeping with my personal theme it had to be another Russian MiL; I did toy with the idea of building a Hind but seeing as my other MiL's are transports it just had to be this one:

Image

A long time denizen of the stash as can be told from the fact that the box has long since been discarded but it promises to be another simple build (it is a Hobbyboss kit after all :ha: ).

I dont expect that this'll get finished in the timeframe but nothing ventured, nothing gained right?

Maybe you should complete them biggest the smallest, it would save most time.

Nice choice too.

Perhaps you could pop them one inside the other.

Apologies for the long gap between posts but a week of night shifts really zaps the modelling time and enthusiasm, I have managed a little here and there though so here's a quick photo update of progress so far:

Seam elimination time next, my least favourite part of model building.

I thought that shot might tickle some people

Dealt with the minor filling and sanding, worst areas are around the engine intakes as the part is a little undersized for the are its meant to fit in:

The rest of the afternoon is to be spent attaching lots of little airframe extras before I move her to the paintshop.

I've got this kit with the Czech, Chinese and Iraqi markings. I like how it's turning out.

So exciting you're building all of these. Keep up the good work. Looks like interesting kits and fun to see them next to eachother. ;-)

Thanks everyone for the positive comments and observations. Lots of time swallowed with present wrapping this week but I have begun the paint process.

First and second coats of Hu84 are going down well:

I think that the two smaller MiL's will be finished in time for the end of the GB but the MiL-26 will be a tougher proposition.

Another cracking build here Tom, nice paintwork too.

Are the big lumps on the side (sponsons? :???:) going to be a differant colour?
Please excuse my ignorance of rotor craft terminology.

Sponsons is the right word OT and yes the starboard one will be half painted in that emerald green seen on Soviet aircraft.

At the moment they are unpainted so I have something to hold the model with whilst I paint the rest of the airframe  , as an interesting fact all of the helicopters fuel is carried in these sponsons to free up as much internal space for cargo and passengers as possible.
