Re: Ians stocking surprise!
Should have thought of that before you closed up the fuselage....! Seriously, though - very poor instructions to have you try to insert them post-fuselage assembly. Is there any way you can slide them in at an angle? You'll probably need to take the control columns out first, though.

Or you could score through the two lower wide parts at the back so they will bend forward, put some Tamiya tape on them from behind so they don't snap and fall off. Then bend them forward enough to insert. Then use tweezers/coctail stick to push them forward into position again. Might work... But Paul is right, looks like poor instructions.

Sideways, with a flick of the wrist. It's in the wrist action...
That's a tricky problem alright. Clearly nobody did a test build with the instructions.

Re: Ians stocking surprise!
No amount of wrist-flicking was going to solve these headaches as the resin side panels meant that there was no room at all. But after much thinking.....
Rear IP was reasonably straightforward - a simple cut, then widened slightly and in it popped. Not too much to clean up with this. Some filler and a sanding down.
The front IP was a different story altogether. The sloping bit on the front had to fit under the fuselage halves but in front of the resin front bulkhead. It's in.
But it was a very messy job!
And I still need to reattach this before I can start filling and sanding the man-made explosion.....
And yes, those are marks from a pair of pliers! That chunk was nicely CA'd to the resin!
I foresee filling and sanding and rescribing in the very near future!

I have the Xtrakit boxing of this kit, without all the lovely resin and PE but... The instructions show adding the instrument panels before closing the fuselage. So it looks like the error was spotted by Hannants.

That's a tough break ( quite literally ) with those rather misleading instructions Ian. Plenty of filling ahead!

A week later and nothing has changed, except for the amount of dust on the parts! A big push needs to happen this week!

Ian...
I am counting on you to finish this model, drink all the tea possible, and stare contently at the resin for 8 hours straight.

Re: Ians stocking surprise!
I'll bring it to work with me on Friday. I have 4 x 12 hour nightshifts over the weekend. So barring any major incidents I should get about 40 hours modelling in.

Are you giving birth then, as well as Andrew?Ian wrote:A week later and nothing has changed, except for the amount of dust on the parts! A big push needs to happen this week!
I like the night shift philosophy Ian and hopefully there will be no major dramas to keep you away from your modelling!
