Paul's Prezzies **FINIS**

Post by PaulBradley »

Yes, THREE - Santa was especially generous this year. Either that, or I've been especially good...... ;-) Mind you, I don't know where he heard that I'm a fast builder.....!

Anyways, I am opening this thread because I'm off on my hols tomorrow and I won't be taking the prezzies with me. I have snuck a peek, but won't open them 'til we return on New Year's Eve. Suffice to say, I am rather chuffed, but also rather chafed as I can't get stuck in until January...!

Interestingly, the prezzies have a loose theme that I will explore - and despite the diversity of each, I have an interest in all three subjects. I shall reveal all when I return. ;-)

:ha:

Santa was extremely kind and generous this year. He left three gifts - an Airfix 1/76 Cromwell, Hasegawa 1/72 Dewoitine D.520 and a set of Zvezda 1/76 15th English Knights figures! :-D 8-)

The common connection? War in Northern France, and that will be the theme of the builds. We'll be returning home on Dec.31st, so I won't be able to start until January; I'll post photos then.

Many thanks to Santa!!! 8-)

I really, really want to see a diorama of the knights charging into battle alongside the Cromwell...

They'll all be separate, but IPMS/USA has a 'triathlon' catagory, where you build models from three different genres (to display your modelling versatility). I'll be doing something like that. If I can find out a location or region where all three fought or were based, I'll include a base with a map. It'll be a very interesting research project.

I like that idea about using a common but unusual connection.

A great bit of creative thinking there by S/Santa.

Yay, finally got to open my Secret Santa gifts! They've been sat under the tree for a while:

...but I opened them this morning:

Image

I should be able to get started on them today.

The Zvezda figures come in a lurid pink/purple plastic. There are 50-odd parts in all a mix of standing and mounted figures:

Image

Detail is pretty good:

Image

I'll be doing a selection of figures from the box in a vignette.

The Hasegawa D.520 dates from the mid-90s and is a typical Hasegawa kit - pretty accurate, nice surface detail, little interior detail, decals that will probably need to be replaced...:

Image

The kit offers two decal options, one apparently from the Battle of France, but I'll need to do some research as to whether they'll be suitable.

The Airfix Cromwell was released in 2012, IIRC, and is a nice little kit. Offers two decal options for 'NW Europe' so I'll, once again, need to do some research into what that means as far as my little project is concerned.

They all look very cool. Particularly those knights. Look forward to seeing them come together.

Off to a cracking start. Got everything washed and primed this morning, then started on the Dewoitine this arvo. Didn't add anything to the interior, just the box items. Painted them up in dark grey/blue. The airframe went together pretty quickly:

Image

I also had the Hobbyboss Easy Build D.520 in the stash, so thought I'd add this to the build for kicks and giggles. That went together very quickly!

Still haven't decided on markings as yet - research is bogged down due to my schoolboy French...
