OT's Stocking Filler

Post by Old_Tonto »

It must be that time of year again. The tree is up & SWMBO is furiously tidying up in a festive frenzy. I did manage to sneak my secret santa pressy off her (She hid it from me as soon as it arrived. Meaner, meaner. ) long enough to take this picture:

Image

I returned it without her knowing so I think I got away with it. ;-)

I really enjoyed the Crusader I got last year. This box is much bigger though so I hope I can get it finished in time. It could of course just be a bigger scale. :???:

I intend to start on Xmas day evening. It would be earlier if it was up to me.

Everything I build needs filler.

Just opened my pressy & I am blown away. I got a 1/72 Canberra PR.9 by Xtrakit plus two Model Alliance decals sheets. I am well chuffed. :-D

Already planning the build - need to buy paint.

Pics to follow. 8-)

No pictures yet just a quick word to let you guys know that I have started this today.

Overall the kit parts are quite detailed but there is some flash to clean up. I have still to decide in a final scheme but I do like the RAF Hemp colour so I am leaning towards that.
As time is short I won't bother with the Navigators station as it is not visable once the kit is closed up. I think this may end up being an in-flight model as it is too big for my shelves.

I think it will look good soaring high above the 'Man-Cave'.

Correction, I did take some pictures.

Here are the splendid decal options Santa gifted me:

The rather battered box showing some shelf ware - it must have been in the grotto for quite some time. ;-)

I hope to get the cockpit & seat painted tonight & find a pilot figure from the spares box.

Good to see it came with extras!

Still an oversized meteor though.

Just discovered a set of white metal wheels by Aeroclub too. Shame I am doing this one wheels up.

Its a funny thing, I love Canberras but Meteors do nothing for me. :???:

Anyway, progress: cockpit finished, installed, pilot added (minus lower legs) & fuselage halves joined.

Image

Fit is not too bad at all considering this is a limited run kit. I must remember to add a seat harness before I fit the canopy.
Looking at it, should there be something behind the seat headrest?

I have also started on the wings:

Image
I need to nip that end together.

These are nice but let down by the very thick sprue gates that attach along the leading edge in two places. It was tricky to remove them with out damaging the wing. Still, nothing a little filler won't fix.

Hopefully I will get the wings attached & nose on tonight.

I like the look of this kit OT. Shame about the sprue gate damage but it's nowt that a bit of proper modelling won't sort out

I have not had much time to build of late but have made slow progress.

The cockpit is complete. I did a pretty decent job of the seat & IP etc. but not a lot can be seen now that the pilot is installed (minus his legs ;-) ).

Image

Since this was taken I added some plastic card to represent the gubbings behind the seat and on top of the IP. Every joint so far has needed filler & the wing to fuselage joint is no exception.

Image

Just look at those gaps. :???:

Image

They are filled now and the canopy is attached, being masked shortly.
The nose was a terrible fit and has consumed lots of filler but I think I have achieved a reasonable fit now. The seam where the fuselage halves meet is proving troublesome at the navigators hatch. It is very tricky to sand the join without removing the hatch detail. I will press on as best I can. I am still finding flash at this stage.

Not one for the faint-hearted this and I still have not decided on a colour scheme.
