Bluesteels Irish Munk Surprise ***FINISHED***

Post by bluesteel »

Mines the Airfix Chipmunk, one of my favourite little kits. My Secret Santa has also kindly supplied an alternative decal choice in the form of those for an Irish Air Corp version, which will look superb. Can't wait to get started. Thank you Secret Santa!

Photos to come when reunited with my camera back home.

I think this will be 'mostly OOB', just with he addition of instrument panels, control columns, some cockpit side gubbins. Also the Airfix figures are depicted with WWII type leather helmets when they should have bone-domes (as depicted in the instructions) so I will build up on their heads using putty. Also I'll reduce the riveting a little bit. Hmmm, maybe not so OOB after all!

Made a start dry fitting. I haven't had an Airfix Chipmunk yet where the fit has been anything but very good, and this is no exception:

It's a great subject is the Chippie and my only real gripe about this kit is the rivets, but some love 'em. The Irish markings are a great addition here by your Secret Santa.

Added a few bits to the rather sparse cockpit interior:

Pilots bone-domes seem ok now, and control sticks added. Cockpit painted. Just instrument panels to go:

Need it for the Chipmunk sprue gates as the joints are quite large...

Interesting. Although I live in Ireland I've never done 'local' aircraft before. Look forward to seeing what you make of it.

I think you need to pick up the pace a bit, the group build closes in about 5 weeks. :ha:
