Re: The Research Area
Went to a lot of museums last year, many of them in England but also Colorado, Oregon and Calgary as well as the local at Hill. One of the neat displays I walked through was this Whirlwind nose section at the City of Norwich Aviation Museum. They had hit cut right behind the control panel so you could literally stand in the cockpitish. Might be a fun idea for the old Airfix kit.

"Here's one I made a little earlier..."
This is my Airfix 1/24 P-51D with the 1/1 version on the revolving turntable plinth behind us (Airfix Tribute Forum display table) at the RAF Museum. Hendon (IPMS Barnet) Show in May 2012.
I have so many photos from both aircraft and Railway museums that it is going to be really difficult to choose one subject to build for this GB. It should be good fun though!
Cheers
Al.

Re: The Research Area
A few years ago our club was asked to build a bunch of kits for the Hill Aerospace Museum. They wanted models of all of their inventory. The club did them in 1/144th scale and while kits were found of most, some were scratched. The idea was the museum staff could move around the models before they actually went to move around the full size planes making the best use of their space. One of the club members is a docent there and he ended up building the buildings themselves and we even ended up with some possible future exhibits.
This has since gone on display in the museum itself. I built four of the kits, the B-17, P-38, B-25 and C-47 though one of the other guys did the decals on them.

The Airfix Lancaster (G-George) is a museum exhibit as she (?) stands at the AWM.
Also there are many, non static, aircraft at Temora Aviation Museum. Google Temora.
