Oh, really nifty display room !!
I think somewhere on UAMF is a link to a bunch of downloadable terrain images and a process/program to print on CD's (maybe other things) as bases.

Re: Chip's Reginald Mitchell Tribute
After a good couple of days at the bench I have almost completed this, in fact the progress has been so good that I forgot to take any photos.
The only thing left to do is create the serials for the side. The decals that I had intended to use are useless, and finding a letter "U" in white (x4) is virtually impossible so I am going to try to make some templates and then airbrush the codes on.

This really came together nicely.

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Re: Chip's Reginald Mitchell Tribute
Not a happy bunny. Plan "A" has gone totally wrong. I tried to be clever and print out the codes onto self adhesive labels which when cut out with a sharp scalpel should have provided nice templates for painting. Unfortunately said labels were not adhesive enough, or the paint was too thin, either way when I pealed off the templates I ended up with this mess:Molly-new wrote: The only thing left to do is create the serials for the side. The decals that I had intended to use are useless, and finding a letter "U" in white (x4) is virtually impossible so I am going to try to make some templates and then airbrush the codes on.
Luckily I had already applied a coat of varnish to the fuselage so most of the paint came off with a damp rag and a bit of elbow grease:
Once I have calmed down I will do the repairs to the paint work and have another go with proper masking tape. I have tried to source decals from e-Bay and Hannants but the larger code sheets do not have the letter "U" in them, so I am quite stuck if this next go does not work. Looks like I will need that extension afterall.

Re: Chip's Reginald Mitchell Tribute
Chip, I have spare decals from two Airfix Defiant kits which have white 'JT - T codes, they should cut up into the 'U' letters you need, I also have the white '4' numbers spare from a Spitfire 22 build. you are offline just now so I'll pop them in the post to you just in case.

That was looking quite nice before. And a great looking little display piece.

Re: Chip's Reginald Mitchell Tribute
This is now finished:
I have really enjoyed this build, as it has posed problems that normal model building does not present. I am quite pleased with the way it came out, and feel that it replicates the actual Spitfire quite closely.
Thanks to everyone who gave support and comments throughout the build, and a special thanks to David (lancfan) for supplying the decals and for suggesting this GB in the first place.

Re: Chip's Reginald Mitchell Tribute***Finished***
More detailed pictures:
I used pieces of metal tape for the replaced BMF pieces.
Quite a few panels underneath the wings were removed and are difficult to see, but I know they are there.
As there is no seat or IP in the cockpit I threw in a few lengths of wire (from an old set of headphones) secured with IPA.
To show the exhaust ports on the engine I put a strip of tape with black marks painted on it into the exhaust recesses. Simple but quite effective in real life.

Can't believe I missed this.
It's a magnificent build of the real thing!
I like how you took the pictures like the museum.
That is a great little display, impressive work!
