It certainly is Sissel, it was a television tie-in release for the James May 'Toy Stories' programme on Airfix which was first aired on BBC TV a few years ago.

I've watched most of May's progs and remember the one to which you refer. I didn't realise that Airfix had put out this kit as a tie-in. Personally though, I hate brightly coloured plastic although I appreciate the manufacturer's intentions particularly if a kit is aimed at younger modellers so they can avoid painting issues etc.

Anyway, this is a good start David and adding cockpit detail during a blitz - a very cool headed approach!

The spitfire cockpit is a tiny thing in 1/72 scale so I usually detail the sidewalls with pencil lines rather than strips of plastic. It does look quite vague in the pictures but when the model is assembled it is quite effective.
The inset images are close ups of part of this image showing the seat and control column freshly painted and the pencilled fuselage frames. The next job will be to glue the fuselage together and fit the straps to the seat before then fitting the wing to the fuselage after the glue has dried on the fuselage.

Thanks Tim, Jaime, Sissel.
The fuselage joint lines have been filed smooth and a piece of sprue has been shaped into the Coffman Starter fairing on the cowling and glued in place. The Tamiya Tape harness has been fitted and varnished over to secure it permanently in place.

This shot shows the wing glued down in place, when this joint has dried assembly can speed up.

Yes, that is a good idea as there is precious little time to be adding ribs etc out of plastic card. Still, you have added some nice additional bits of detail David, which I never find time to do in a blitz as I'm flapping too much and it's coming together very well.

The airframe is now basically complete, as the glue dries I will make a new canopy using the mould just visible in the picture.

I am going to model the aeroplane with an open canopy so I need to mould a new centre portion, as I have done this before I already have a mould for the Spitfire 1 & 5 (1 canopy for each on the same mould) Here is my Mattel Vac-U-Form seconds after moulding the new part.
