They now do acrylic varnishes? I hadn't realised that, though I am slowly changing over to acrylic as my enamels run out.

I had a change of plan last night and instead of working on to the end I decided that I would get some rest before finishing and stopped at 1.50 AM. anyway, got up early and here it is -finished. My last Blitzbau 14 build.

Great finish David, that is an excellent looking Tempest. Probably a wise move getting some rest before the final finishing phase.

That is a really good job David and there is some nice detail with this kit, which I reckon would stand up to any comparison with other manufacturer's products. I think that maybe Academy's 1/72nd range might be a mixed bag as another member on here (sorry, I can't remember who now, it's an age thing  ) is building one of their 1/72nd Starfighters and the detail on that doesn't look in the same league as this Tempest.

Amazing! How do you build them so well, so fast?

Thanks Shaun, David, Alan.
Shaun, some of the early Academy kits are reminiscent of Frog kits with engraved panel lines but their later offerings have the look and detail of Trumpeter kits at a third of the price. They also stand up well to the latest Airfix.
David, I always comfortably build at a speed that the kit will allow me to, I don't try to be a quick builder and don't think of speed when I do build.
Alan, although I do own a simple airbrush I prefer the old hairy stick and only resort to sprayed finishes when that will do the job better, I find that using thin washes and thin paint and sparingly loaded brushes carefully applied will give similar results to an airbrush without all the masking and the preparation and for most types of weathering I find powdered pencil and pastel is most effective and quicker than airbrushed paint. In that respect, I am probably lazy.

that really looks good; so what's next, the Airfix 1/24 Typhoon :-D ?

I've built the Academy Starfighter, if I recall it's got nice engraving, but the wheel-wells and airbrakes can't really be opened up as they just show the models interior, and the pilot has a quite strange shaped head.
