The Planes ... The Planes ... *** Finished ***

Post by JohnRatzenberger »

I'll be doing the last 5 of the 6 Zvezda kits from the Disney movie Planes.

Image

These are all snap-tite, sticker-markings, no paint, no glue, no varnish, what could go wrong ?

Here's the one I have done a while ago ... It wasn't totally snap-tite - the covers needed some help to stay on the landing struts ... other than that I don't remember many issues.

I have no idea what my order, timing, etc, will be - I may build them in the living room so I can watch Big XII basketball ... Then again, life may have something else in store for me ....

No paint, glue, varnish, skickers for decals. Oh the humanity.

Those look like perfect blitz material, even I might stand a chance of building one inside three months!

Aww.... John's going cute!
I've not seen the movie yet, but I will. I'm a fan of animated movies, new or old.

Have fun with these.

OK, off we go ....

We'll start with our hero, Dusty Cropduster ....

Image

For those of you dis-respecting my effort, I want you to note there are two sticker options so this isn't just a cake-walk ... harrumph :)

And here's the official clock shot - I'm starting at noon, Saturday the 8th, US east coast time ....

Image

I have left the official workbench and am sitting in the living room so I can watch Olympics or basketball, whatever SWMBO wants .... :)

Winter Olympics - there are only two possible outcomes for each performance/run/whatever .... someone falls or someone does not .... :)

Are you going blue or orange?

Here we are, about 1:15 into it, I forgot the clock.

Image

I would be further along, but the spinner made a dash for freedom and I do mean a dash - it hit the carpet in front of me and ended up almost 3 ft behind, under me and the couch ... But I got it back.

These snap-tite are interesting - that girder-like part holds the combo dash & exhausts and will later hold the canopy in place. The Corsair had some interesting parts like that also.

The part detail is very fine, very finely recessed panel lines, very thin trailing edges ... these are pretty good models.

Oh, yes, no GB would be complete without historical references ....

I'll show the others as we get to them ...

@Splash, I think I'll stick with the cropduster (orange) rather than the sport (blue) or maybe something in between. I will note that neither the box art nor the book exactly match the stickers provided .... :???:

And here we are, after two-and-a-half leisurely hours.

Image

I should not a slight dab of glue holding the cowling tightly down. And another gluing the tailwheel back together - it is very vulnerable.

Image

I chose the cropduster aircraft but then a mix of the cropduster and sport decals. It's my model and I'll do what I want.

Image

I'm having a bit of trouble with a couple stickers lifting off and may have to do something later ....

Image

And here's Dusty and Skipper, together again ...

Image

So, we're three hours into this ... time to find the next one ...

We have Kansas State stomping all over Texas 65-41 with 6-1/2 min to go.

The game is at K-State but we have Texas announcers who are spending most their time talking about how good Texas is ....

This one was easy, a few less parts, and a lot less stickers. It helped that I put the stickers on the wheel pants and wings before "assembly".

Image

This one shows the flaw of only 3 plastic colors in each kit (so far) as the tires, prop, and engine are not in black.

Image

But one could, if they wanted, use some paint on these and really make them pop a bit more ....

Image

And now there are 3 ....

I am behind posting this - an envelope that was supposed to be full of decals from Hannant's wasn't .... I have sent them a note but it sure broke my Blitz interest level for a while ...

Oh, yes, KSU beat Texas handily, despite the announcers ....
Now KU is in a tight one with West Virginia ....

They look like fun little kits. You should have them all finished well inside the 24 hours.
