Lancfan's brace of Hurricanes ***FINISHED***

Post by lancfan »

Sissel's twin build has spurred me on to do a similar exercise with two Revell Hurricane 1 kits in the stash, these are not accurate enough to join the collection but will make good blitz fodder so here they are, both kit decal sheet identities will be used following the kit painting instructions as a nostalgic 24 hour twin build.
Work will begin at 10.00 AM on monday the 17th.

Hi David,

you're a brave man!

If these are the original "Frameable Boxtop" 60s moulds (as they appear to be), it seems the Revell workers went to the trouble of snipping off the major sprues at the factory. None of the Hurricanes I built at the time had the fuselage/wing runners. Or is my memory playing tricks on me? Anyone?

Here are the two Hurricanes ready for the 10.00 am start, the pale grey kit is an old Sunday Telegraph promotional kit whilst the brown model came from the BoB set, this tooling hails from the old 'frameable box top' days and is far too inaccurate to join the collection so will no attempt will be made to reshape the kit, this build will be simply for fun.

Well, it is 10.00 am and time to begin, the first steps will be to pre-paint where needed, make dummy radiators from plastic card to block the see-through effect and glue the wing and fuselage halves together. Pictures soon.

Morning Ian, the pre-painting is nearly done now so the first pictures will appear before long.

Good to see this underway David, looks like a bit of a challenge and should keep you out of mischief for the next few hours  Best of luck with them and hopefully I'll be able to see most if not all of the build.

Like these Ian?
The plastic card radiators are in place and the pre-painting has been done- oh and I opened the cooling flaps on the radiator housings.

The wing and fuselage halves have been assembled- note the absence of tape, these parts just snapped together and even after all this time the kit is still seemingly as good as it was in days of yore.

David.
There will now be a short intermission while I wait for the glue to dry.

Hi Jeff, the story continues-
The kit pilots will not be used and in their place will be these seats to fill the void and draw the eye.

I'm still waiting for the glue to dry before cleaning up the joint lines so the intermission will resume.

We like pictures! And we also like your seats. A good idea and a super way to fill the pilot-less cockpits.
