Re: 'Nick' the Dragon-Slayer
That's a fair amount of filler at the root Martin but it looks like you took care of it, trundling along nicely with this.

That's a great choice, Martin. Very different and an attractive plane. That cowling panel looks perfect.

Looking good. Cowling came out nice...I hadn't realized that this was such a petite little thing.

Re: 'Nick' the Dragon-Slayer
No pics, I'm afraid but I've masked off the various openings and done a couple of rounds of filling and sanding. I am now in a position to mask the white bands and paint the leading edge stripes yellow (hopefully tonight), although I'm pretty sure the cowlings will need another round of filling and sanding. I can also assemble the landing gear.
After that, I have to wait for my Tamiya IJAAF dark green and light grey to arrive.

Martin

So do I! However, I had a pleasant surprise tonight as the paints arrived. Latest progress is as per the picture below. I have masked the white bands for the Hinomaru, painted a couple of coats of yellow on the leading edges and a couple of coats of Tamiya IJAAF Grey on the wingtips and rear fuselage / empennage. I now need to wait until the yellow has dried for masking - then it's on to the main part of the structure in grey.
I don't know how much more I'll get done tomorrow as I'm packing tomorrow night to go away early on Sunday. Not back until next weekend.
regards,
Martin
Re: 'Nick' the Dragon-Slayer
Chris,
Well, I'd go so far as to say, "prodding buttock"!
I got the yellow leading edges masked tonight and I have been gingerly applying Tamiya's grey paint (actually more a grey-green; like a dark Sky colour) by brush tonight. I've thinned it quite a bit and added a couple of drops of washing up liquid to act as a flow enhancer. It still doesn't flow as nicely as Xtracyrlix, but some of that is probably due to the excessively matt primer I used. The trick seems to be to apply it quite "dry" on the brush. Anyhoo, the grey is basically done. I'm not going to get too bent out of shape by some of the crudities in my construction highlighted thereby. It'll do as is.
Green blotches next weekend hopefully!
regards,
Martin

They're still to come, I'm afraid. I got home tonight fully intending to blotch to the max, but I still wasn't happy with the filling around the cowlings and the tailplanes, so they've had another coat of filler. Hopefully touch up will be tomorrow, followed by blotching.

Martin

She's looking very nice, Martin.
Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...

Thank you, Sissel.Prisca wrote:She's looking very nice, Martin.
I have patched up the IJAAF green-grey, but it looks a bit green to me, so I'm overcoating with a couple of very thin coats of light gull grey. Blotching next.

Martin
