Blohm's Bloomin' Bf-110. *DNF*
(try and say that ten times really fast )
Hi everyone, I'm building the Airfix Me-110. And so is Jssel. My build will be a complete OOB (as always) and I plan it on being a quick, simple and nice build.
Well, now just to wait until febuary, and until my kit actually arrives, that is.

Nice kit. Do you have a scheme for it?

Jagewa: You read my mind. Any shark decal is an automatic put-me-right-now.
Oooooh, looky, I also got a bottle of Mr. Mark setter. What a pleasant surprise!

Err...maybe not. Ice coffee might be good. Before, inbetween and after.
I've taken the sprues out, and rinsed off each part. I'm ready with a charged phone and mojo ready for GBuary.

Re: Blohm's Bloomin' Bf-110.
And I'm starting today. And now, I appear to be the first one to start in this GB.
Box art again:
Two lovely schemes provided:
And now, I've got the chance to take a look at the sprues in first person.
*Breaths in* There is always a familiar smell when opening up an airfix kit. I love that smell, of plastic bags and decals, fresh and untouched.
A quick preview, will be provided:
Sprue A:
And a closeup of the underside wing. I admit, the panel lines do look rather wide and heavy, but I am not criticising this kit for that. It's more of a representing trait, and should look great when coats of paint are applied.
Sprue B:
The holding pieces may be a little big, but the plastic is soft and smooth so the clean-up process is nothing much. Drop tanks and bombs, plus attachment racks are provided. As so.
Sprue D: A wealth of plastic in this particular sprue. Rear-gun ammo drums are included, as well as a separate set of machine guns which are supposed to fit through the nose cone. Looks to be all ship-shape!
Also, the undercarriage isn't completely void of detail, and include more undercarriage pieces.
While the cockpit and side walls are a bit dissapointing, as there is not much detail. The ammo drums, joystick and control panels should fill in some of this empty space. Hopefully.
The pilots look to be in good order, with a choice of arm positioning. A nice touch.
The decals:
That sharkmouth is still crying out to be used!
I think the preview is long enough, now onto building:
Due to a lack of Acrylic thinner, I've gone back to using revell enamels. All brushed of course. Leaving a base coat of grey to settle (I forgot how much enamel smells when mixed with turpentine over the past year ) . Then onto the more detailed items
Should get some more done this afternoon. After a cup of tea, of course.

Re: Blohm's Bloomin' Bf-110. *First started*
Nice sprue review and a good start.
When I got back to the hobby I ditched all enamel due to health reasons and smell.
I have this as well, and looks like a great kit.

Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...
Re: Blohm's Bloomin' Bf-110. *First started*
I built one of these a few years ago. It's a lovely kit!

Re: Blohm's Bloomin' Bf-110. *First started*
Thanks for the link to the build Ian. Nice job!
Prisca: I am mostly converting over to acrylics. The tamiya and humbrol acrylics are much nicer to work with. Hopefully soon, I'll get some of the awesome range of Vallejo. As I've seen on your workbench.
I will hopefully have time to clean up that grey base coat. After using an airbrush with acrylics for most of my work for ages, it's really hard going back to enamels and using a brush for everything. And not just because turpentine gives me a horrible headache . I've now become so much fussier when I got my airbrush.
I hope I get some new thinners soon. Otherwise, more enamels!

Flying start Blohm, be interested to see how the detail of the cockpit looks.
The pilot looks small on his own there. Are you going to use the crew?
Cheers

I most likely won't be. But I will be saving them for later builds, and the Gear-Up GB. I just don't think they will be given justice under the slightly thick canopy. They are quite well moulded.Jagewa wrote:Flying start Blohm, be interested to see how the detail of the cockpit looks.

Re: Blohm's Bloomin' Bf-110. *First started*
Hi everyone:
A small update on how far this kit is going, I've managed to get quite a few of everything together.
The fit of the cockpit against the side-walls has not been too good. Much sanding was required, even then, it still left a large gap at the front. And the instructions were poor on where to place it. As there were 3 possible locations.
No matter, I got the gap filled, then worked on the wings, then the tail, now the landing gear.
The horizontal piece of the tail is a very tight fit, so more sanding was required, it still went in nicely.
Nose 7.92mm MGs:
These, are also a slightly tight fit and may be fiddly for people with larger sized fingers. So tweezers and padded scissors were used to push it through the gaps at the front.
I might take some more shots tomorrow, but now. I'm going to relax and watch part of the Hercule Poirot DVD collection.
