Try gently heating it with a hair dyer and giving it a twist.

Thanks but I have given up with hairdryers after melting the tailplane of my Gnat in the Museum GB.

I am going to have a go with hot water, wish me luck.

Shame about that tail boom. Hope the hot water fixes it.
Will you make tea then too? :ha:

Best of luck! ;-)

After an extremely nice cup of tea...... :-D

I used the excess water in a glass to heat the rear boom. After a quick twist into place and a dousing in cold water:

Success. As you can see I have now also completed the tailplane structure and added the masked canopy, weighted canon housing, and various dangly bits underneath (hence it sitting on the box top).

I am away from the bench for a few days but hope to get it painted early next week.

That is a great recovery Chip.

I remember that they all laughed at me on this forum when I took my bent Spitfire XIX into the bath with me. :ha:
It worked though.

The P-38 is one of the best looking planes ever built IMHO & having flown one in WarThunder, anyone who gets that many kills in one deserves to be celebrated.
Keep up the good work.

Good save Chip. I have to say that hot (not boiling!) water is my preferred method for fixing warps such as that.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

It is one of the most graceful designs in history, I was looking at my silver one as it dried and it just seemed like a beautiful bird made to slip through the skies.

Agreed, I think it is quite aggressive looking as well though.

I have managed to get a coat of grey primer on, followed by a coat of grey on the bottom. Next step is to get the Olive colour on the top.

The props, undercarriage and other accessories have been painted so I am in the final straight with this one.

That looks great, Chip!
I really do like the look of these P-38s. I'll have to get one too.

I have not been able to get as much time at the bench as I had intended this weekend as SWMBO decided she wanted the front room decorating, so most of my time has been spent on a 1:1 scale Dining Room.

I have however been able to steal enough time to get the decals on:

Image

The red tip decals for the rear fins did not really work, so they got a coat of red paint to improve their looks.
