Brickie's Dogfight Double
After some consideration, I'll be joining in with the Bf-110 from the Dogfight Double set, but replacing the Spitfire with a Heller Caudron C.714 as part of the ongoing Marek Project.
The Bf-110 will therefore be done as a Battle of France example, and given the decal sheet in the kit is rather sparse (just crosses and a squadron badge), I've got in a Techmod set which gives me decals for U8+BB of Hptm Gunther Sprecht, I/ZG 26, France 1940.
I'll try and finish both a/c for the GB but will show the build of the Caudron on my workbench thread so as not to distract here.

Now that's a combo you don't see, this'll be great.

Re: Brickie's Dogfight Double
Slightly delayed thanks to the onset of the Lurgi in the house, but here's the somewhat sparse cockpit...
It's had a touch-up of paint since the photo was taken...
No detail at all on the sidewalls, so I added some plasticard.
Problem with the low-backed gunner's seat - the big hole in the back of the gunner becomes somewhat obvious.
Will probably fill it rather than replacing him as none of my spare pilots fit the seat without reconstructive surgery.
Closed up the fuselage...
No indication on the lower wing part as to exactly where to drill for the stand, so I dipped the prongs in paint and dabbed them on the part, then drilled there.
Fit of the gear covers isn't stellar...
Attached lower wing to fuselage after drilling stand holes out.

Fast work, thes Airfix 110 seem to fall together, shame about the undercarriage doors, looks almost like the fit of the Fujimi ones,

Re: Brickie's Dogfight Double
A very interesting dogfight double pairing Brickie. I have to say that the 110 does have a disappointingly sparse cockpit for a modern kit but I suppose the crew figures will make up for that to a degree. Is the gunner figure out of the kit? if so that hole in his back is also a bit disappointing for a modern kit.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Yes, the crew figures are out of the kit. Normally the hollow back isn't an issue but with the low-backed gunner's seat it was.

Re: Brickie's Dogfight Double
This looks a nice kit except the undercarriage door fit looks a bit off. I wish kit makers would design the moulds with closed doors in mind.

Re: Brickie's Dogfight Double
The undercarriage was fine with me, so maybe its just a slightly warped part?
Nice work too.

A coat of Tamiya Light Blue, some black Citadel ink along the panel lines and another coat of the blue...
Splinter camo on top with mottling by cotton-bud...
And that canopy was always going to get an Eduard pre-cut mask...

Re: Brickie's Dogfight Double
I do like these Airfix Bf110's but not masking the canopy, far too time consuming.
Nice work so far.

Nice idea with the cotton bud, what colours did you use for the splinter? as there is very little difference in your cutting mat and one of the colours,I know flash can play havoc when trying to photo your models

The colours are Tamiya's "RLM Grey" and "Deep Green", can't remember the XF numbers off the top of my head.
