You are a Gourmet!
Sometimes the talent consists exactly in that: try five dozen times when others stop at three dozen...! (F.Labelle)
I think that modeling is a subtle mix of zen philosophy and absolute crazyness - but in my case I would not dare to specify the respective percentage of each......

Never seen that kit or plane before.
It looks pretty cool in the angle at the box-art.
Resin kits scare me. Can't wait to see what you'll do with it.

Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...

Interesting choice of subject and kit - this'll be well worth watching.
But you'll only need one, eh, Barry?Barry wrote: Also supplied are (In my box anyway) four sets of vac transparencies.

An X-P58, now that is a rare one!
Only three of these were made, they were designed with 4 37mm nose cannons!

Ever the optimist eh Paul?
Glad you're interested Chris. After my jet/props phopah in the "Previously Built" section, I was just about to ask if you also only wanted combat vet subjects here.
Actually, only one of these built and a 2nd one started but not finished. No armaments ever installed before the project was cancelled. Nicely written synopsis :

The parts look good, but are the tailbooms solid?

Barry,
From the photos, it appears that if you needed instructions to describe the XP-58, they'd be something like:
Take bog-standard P-38, administer steroids, et voila!
I too am looking forward to seeing how you tackle this.
regards,

Re: Barry's Lockheed XP-58 'Chain Lightning'
Hi James...sad to say, the booms are solid. Needless to day, they are also heavy. I drilled them out a bit (Removed 2-3 gr. each) but I don't know if it's going to be enough. There's not much room for lead in the nose.

How about the engine bays - are they solid too...??Barry wrote:Hi James...sad to say, the booms are solid. Needless to day, they are also heavy. I drilled them out a bit (Removed 2-3 gr. each) but I don't know if it's going to be enough. There's not much room for lead in the nose.
That would help with weight ahead of the mainwheels - Or if hollow, room for some more ballast...?

Re: Barry's Lockheed XP-58 'Chain Lightning'
Right Carlos...the engine nacelles are solid too. That whole wing-engines piece in the 2nd photo is one solid lump of resin. I've drilled out the booms some more and reduced the weight now by 4-5 grams each.
