Re: Titan's Wooden Wonder
Nice one Mark, the only thing that gets me with this kit, is that bottle bottom canopy.
I'm sure you'll pull all your tricks out, and it'll look fab.
Cheers

Re: Titan's Wooden Wonder
Thanks all.
The cockpit has been painted and whilst mostly fantasy it is of my creation and thus it's not that bad....
Now that the fuselage halves were together it was time to do something with the two disks that are supposed to be the rear wheel, I filled in between the disks with putty and then finished over the top of that with some Mr surfacer and will need a bit of micromesh to smooth it out completely.
I had to do that last night and so have no photos but believe me this looks a lot better.
I bought these....
specifically for jobs like this..
The wings and stabs were glued together.
And then test fitted to the fuselage and there were no problems with the fit.
I will attach the nacelles and undercarriage first to the wing and then glue the whole assembly to the fuselage just to make things a little easier to handle.
Regards
Mark
This may be subbed with a falcon replacement Jim, I have not quite made up my mind yet.Jagewa wrote:The only thing that gets me with this kit, is that bottle bottom canopy.

Nice work. More about the lights please. What a great idea.

Re: Titan's Wooden Wonder
I started using some self adhesive acrylic crystal rhinestones from my wifes craft box, (until she made me buy my own) for landing lights on 1/72 kits where possible as they looked so much better than my old method of daubs of silver paint.
I also tried out the self adhesive silver flatback gemstones that you see in the mozzie wing as they have a shallower profile and are ideal for fitting between the wing halves, without the need for any trimming etc.
The big plus to it all is that they are very cheap at about 2.00 GBP for 500 from either Ebay or Amazon and come in various sizes, I used 3mm silver for the mozzie and 2mm crystal for the others.

Excellent work on this old warhorse Mark. I have a few sets of lenses from Little Cars for making lights and whilst they are very nice they aren't really any better than those craft items and with the disadvantage that they cost considerably more.

Mark,
I like what you've added to the cockpit; the painting's OK as well
However, the tailwheel was correct as Airfix moulded it; the actual tailwheel design featured twin rims, which eliminated shimmy in certain conditions. The Airfix Lanc (old tool) also depicts this style of tailwheel.
regards,
Martin

Re: Titan's Wooden Wonder
Thank you all for the input and interest in this build.
Lucky for me though that it is easily fixed and so I dug out all the putty and apart from a little clean up the rear wheel is now back to normal.
I have glued the undercarriage into the nacelles and although a tad fiddly all went smoothly and so the sub assemblies were then glued to the fuselage.
I am going to knock back the rivet detail on the nacelles a bit and do some more smoothing around the rear of them.
I am also going to cut up a falcon canopy if I can get time tomorrow and see how it fits because although the kit canopy fits well it is quite thick and it gives me an excuse to show two more photos of the model..
