Re: Titan's Wooden Wonder
Thanks guys, she's starting to take shape rather nicely and surprisingly no problems encountered so far.
Not much done but that being said I am ahead of schedule as I thought that I would till be at the cockpit stage still but at this rate I should have the kit finished this time next week if all goes well.
I have dug out the Falcon canopies.
I outlined the canopy with black pen to make cutting out easier and then with a new blade began to lightly score around the canopy until it was cut free and then lightly sanded the edges.
I attached the exhaust shrouds and then I used Mr Mask over the landing lights and then gave the model a squirt of Halfords grey primer to see what's what, I couldn't find much that needed to be done so I gave the model a full on squirt.
Finally I smoothed over the primer with so micrcloths in prep for some Xtracrylics paint.
Regards
Mark

Looking great. That Falcon canopy should be a great improvement and well worth it given the lovely detail you have put in the cockpit.

Re: Titan's Wooden Wonder
Thanks David, the canopy has been dipped and now is crystal clear.
I've sprayed the two camo colours today freehand and will sharpen them up a tad tomorrow, also the paint will be cured enough to mask the demark line for the medium sea grey underneath and fuselage sides.
Unfortunately I managed to break two MG's from the nose so will repair them by drilling out the busted one's and then inserting some stretched sprue replacements.

Paint's looking good and the choice of scheme makes that look a very different Mossie.

Re: Titan's Wooden Wonder
Thanks guys.
I sharpened the camo up a bit using white tac sausages.
Undersides painted with medium sea grey and when dried I then painted the undercarriage and will give them a black oil wash to finish then off.
A decent demark line between the grey and camo was achieved using low tack tape.
The falcon canopy will need a smidge of filler on the starboard forward side but other than that is a very good fit and makes so much difference to the look of the model than if the kit supplied canopy was used..

Terrific paint job and you're right that the canopy makes a huge difference. how do you plan to frame it? Decal strips?

Beautiful freehand paint work.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

Decal strips I think David, much easier to get clean lines on the vac.dwomby wrote:Terrific paint job and you're right that the canopy makes a huge difference. how do you plan to frame it? Decal strips?
Time to add the props, I didn't fancy adding the props whilst spraying the model as it would have become a bit fiddly so I left them off knowing I would be able to add them afterwards and still have them rotate.
Leaving off the gear doors also makes this a lot easier as they won't be getting in the way.
It's just a simple case of a little bit of putty on the end of a piece of sprue....attach the prop shaft to the putty...
Insert into the nacelle from behind and line up the shaft.
And whilst keeping pressure on the piece of sprue and just glue the prop onto it and the props will still rotate.
The canopy has now been glued on and the frames will be done will decal strips. The intake meshes have also be added as have the nav lights.
A coat or two of klear will be the next thing to add.

Now that's clever - the way you get the pins in to the back of the props!
